Re: Clutch pedal issue

Advice won't help as pedals has made up his mind that it's rubbish. This has been obvious for a while now. It's the crs fault not the lack of maintenance ................................................ Now where have we heard that one before? I would dispute the lack of maintenance. I checked out ...

Re: Clutch pedal issue

Hi "pedals", I know what you mean about getting frustrated with the car. I bought mine with invoices and bills that would fill a library, the guy was an enthusiast, used to wrap it up every night in a warm garage, waxoyl it between washes..I thought it was going to be a great car. Did it stop it wan...

Re: Clutch pedal issue

OK, so we are probably looking at the scrap yard here. Just a new design arm, and a couple of clutch repair kits takes it to about £100. How much labour is involved in removing the gearbox and fitting the new parts?

Re: Clutch pedal issue

I had thought I'd done the right thing. checked all of the things on the "look at before you buy" no issues. Had the cam belt changed as a precaution. The car has a full service history, from new. It makes you wonder if it is worth the paper it is written on. I've washed my hands of it (it belongs t...

Spent most of the day swearing at it. Having finally got the door locks sorted, the clutch has packed in

Re: Clutch pedal issue

Master cylinder, above the pedal? failure looks like a possibility as does the slave cylinder. I can feel fluid round both of them. If as Rob suggests, this has been caused by a seized release arm, how easy is it to free this off with the engine and gearbox in place? No point replacing the seals in ...

Re: Clutch pedal issue

I have one on CD. If this is going to be a long complicated job, then the car is going to go. I just can't keep spending time and money on something which is going to keep breaking down. I have already spent about £500 on repairs and maintenance. That works out at about £4 for every mile I have mana...

Re: Clutch pedal issue

Where do I start? Is this an engine out job? Or can it all be done with everything still in place?

At this rate the cost of DIY repairs is going to exceed the value of the car. We have had the car for about 6 month and have only managed to drive it about 6 times. Not through want of trying

Clutch pedal issue

I am starting to believe that our car is a pile of junk. I spent nearly a month trying to get the door open and working properly. Without success so we only have manual locking. Now that it is all together, I thought I would take it for a run. No such luck. The clutch pedal has always been a bit sti...

Re: Centre console

I was going to ask the same. The finish is worn in places on ours. It comes away in places if you catch it with anything. I have started on it with my fingernail but I'm guessing a plastic scraper may be better. I tried some mild abrasive on it but it made not real difference.

Re: Should I re-spray Project Shed

I'd go for a repaint. If it is going to be on the track, you need something to stand out from the crowd. How about spraying each panel in a different bright colour harlequin style

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?

Charging the battery. All of the work on the doors and locks (presumably because they were open for so long) has drained it completely.

Re: Antenna question

Personally I would just get an original aerial. WELOVEMGFS and MGFnTFbitz both have stocks of originals. I bought one at the show on Sunday. Unmarked like new. Both of these companies are only listing the base unit, which wasn't the bit I needed. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Genuine-Replacement-Ae...

Re: Antenna question

The threadlock works fine. I only covered half of the thread which goes into the aerial, so that there is contact on the bit that goes furthest in. The thing is the same pattern as the original, so looks fine. It also works ok, now tested :thumbsu:

I've got the full Renovo kit, cleaner, re-colour and re-proof. Looks like a reasonable option, just need some dry weather to do the work

Re: Antenna question

Thanks. I am only using mid strength Loctite. I will try just sticking half of the thread inserted in the aerial and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I may try making a sleeve with water pipe and pipe lagging to cover it up.

Antenna question

I have just received a replacement radio antenna. A direct replacement for the original as all of the rubber had perished. The new one comes with two different threads. The one I need is stepped, large to small. It fits fine. However, the large thread fitting into the antenna isn't a very tight fit....

Re: Problem solved storing hardtop

Good idea. I'll have to have a go at knocking one up in the spring. What are the approximate dimensions between the horizontal parts at the bottom and how high up, off the ground do they need to be?
