Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I have actually driven my car today. It has been in hibernation since August last year. Since then my house has got a new layer of paint, which naturally have taken all of my spare time. It was lovely to finally have some time to drive the MGF again. I was reminded why I love these cars. They are ab...

Re: MGF VVC 98 MK1 exhaust popping.
Hi Dunkle, Sorry, this post do not help you much, but my 99 1.8 MPi have done the same since I bought it 8 years ago. I do not worry since it does not seem to do any harm. I actually like the pops. It's like a signature for my MGF. So far I have changed about every service item, like oil, filters, s...

I am sorry I can not answer your specific question, but yellow looms usually means that it belongs to the SRS system.

Re: Replace EPAS ECU
Thanks. The steering in my car has been troublesome as long as I've owned it. The symptoms are that the steering is heavy, especially when I turn right. EPAS light is not illuminated. I've checked the fuse and fuse holder, and tried the EPAS reset procedure. When the car is jacked up it do not turn ...

Replace EPAS ECU
Is it as easy as taking out the old one and replace it with a new one with same part number?
Or do I have to take any precautions?

Re: set of suspension bushes found
I replaced all my bushes to orange Duraflex four years ago and I am happy with them. They fitted nicely, except for the large front wishbone bushes on the right side. They where a tad too large.
The handling is still very good after four years.

Re: Rear O\S brike line change with subframe in?
In short DOT5.1 have a higher boiling point than DOT4. DOT4 should have high enough boiling point for everyday use, but why not use the best option, DOT5.1? You can safely mix DOT4 and DOT5.1. They are both glycol-based, so you do not need to drain the system completely. You will only get a slightly...

Re: Rear O\S brike line change with subframe in?
Thanks Thomas! Unfortunately, I've got to do mine outside at present! Yes, my thought was the issue of the clips along the top, behind the inner wing, but fortunately, I've no stress on time, and the T-Junction looks really rather clean. My plan is to do all 3 and get it all done in one job. It see...

Re: Rear O\S brike line change with subframe in?
I did both without dropping the subframe. I spent an evening on the job, including fabricating the pipes. The most tricky part was to loose the pipes from the top fasteners. I believe it can be tricky to unscrew the pipes from the T-joint for some, but some gentle heating was enough for me. Here's s...

Re: blue coolent temp sensor question
I did not put on any washer or gasket to mine IIRC.
The earth piont for the sensor is the threads, so if you cover them with PTFE tape it may not work.

Remember to check the polarity.
Try to take out the faulty bulb, turn it 180 degrees, insert it and check again.

Re: Help with re-fitting cam belt
I'm glad I could help.
Next time it will be easier, if the timing is correct. Just lock the cams and flywheel and the new belt will (or should) slip on.

Re: Help with re-fitting cam belt
Hi HFE, I had the exact same problem just days ago. Read the story here: http://www.mgfregister.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=21541 The belt is a tight fit. And since you have timed your engine by adjusting the crankshaft, the new belt will not fit until you adjust it to fit the belt. Here's how I d...

Re: Crank and camshaft alignment - Advice fitting belt
Went rather quickly over this one, but wanted to add: - after fitting the belt, turn the crackshaft 2 full turns and recheck the timing marks (before starting the engine) - if in doubt for whatever reason: remove plugs (to remove compression) and turn cams and/or camshaft by hand .... absolutely tr...

Re: Crank and camshaft alignment - Advice fitting belt
Nice garage and car collection you got there Reckless Rat. :) I could finally start it up and take it for a test drive today. And the belt stayed in place. Again, thank you all for your help. I did a lot of maintenance tasks this winter: changed the belts, water pump, tensioner and aligned the engin...

K&N panel filter have a lifetime warranty. Meaning you do not have to buy a new filter again, just clean and oil it annually.

Re: Crank and camshaft alignment - Advice fitting belt
The tunes was R.E.M - The one I love, Spin Doctors - Two Princes and Kent - Pärlor. The last one one of my absolute favourites performed by, in my view, a lone Swede bigger than ABBA. :) (I may upset some Swedes on this forum now, but that is not a unusual behaviour of a Norwegian). Anyway, the only...

Re: Crank and camshaft alignment - Advice fitting belt
I finally made it! :D The belt is now on and timing is correct. Thank you all for your help. In the end I took out the tensioner backplate bolt and loosened the allen bolt to allow as much movement as possible for the tensioner without removing it. Then I runned the belt from exhaust cam pulley down...
