Re: Engine Harness

I don't think I would bother given that unless it is a total loss the loom could be repaired if needed.

Re: PRT Benefits/Problems

Personally, having watched the debate for the best part of 20 years I’ve come to the conclusion that there is little discernible benefit in retro fitting PRT to an F/TF.

Re: Your experience

This year I will have owned my TF for 20 years, the first 10 years as my daily driver with no real problems, the more you use them the reliable they are.

Unless it needs a replacement gasket - don't change it, it isn't a service and may do more harm than good.

Re: Battery charge light on while driving?

Assuming a 09 TF is the same as the MGR F/TF, if the issue was with the alternator electronics the battery warning light wouldn’t aluminate at all when the ignition is on but before the engine is started.

Re: How many MGF's are left?

According to the www.howmanyleft.co.uk web site (not a bastion of accuracy but often close enough) there are currently around 5200 MGF’s on the road and not SORN. The SORN number is much higher.

Re: Advice Needed

It should be noted that the workshop manual will say the rear subframe must be lowered, this is in order to be able to remove the long M14 bolt that connects mount to the subframe. However, the subframe can be left in place and the bolt cut in half, the new bolt can be used installed the other way a...

Re: New Battery - FLAT

Sounds like it could be a failed alternator, when the ignition is turned on (without starting the engine) does the battery warning light aluminat? If not then the alternator has failed.

Re: Exhaust downpipe

The same exhaust system is used on the 1.6 and 1.8, I would think the new one is aftermarket. Rimmer's list the new-old-stock down pipe at £240 where as the aftermarket is £120.

Re: Dicky dipstick

The remote filler and dipstick are in two parts, there is a normal pipe coming from the engine block and this is connected into the plastic filler. It is quite possible that the parts have come adrift. with a screwdriver it is possible to remove the top of the filler and shine a light into it to see...

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?

Guess that comes with a reason, anti corrosion wise or some damage. Anyway a good moment to get a new colour on your subframe, I suggest a vibrant tint, like Orange ;) I originally planned to just drop the subframe to be able to extract the wishbones as I didn't want to drain the coolant system aga...

When I bought my 2002 TF it was only 2.5 years old, the valve had been disabled I suspect by the original dealer at PDI.
