E10 petrol from September 2021
Government has announced rollout of E10 petrol from September. The higher octane stuff at 98+ RON will stay at E5, so they say, but I'm not aware that the high octane stuff has any ethanol at all at the moment. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/fuelling-a-greener-future-e10-petrol-set-for-september...

Re: Front & Rear Bumper Covers
They do. It came up on an internet search I did, but price is a bit eye-watering, especially as they're not stainless steel !talkingcars wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 10:36 pmRimmer Brothers used to sell O/E grill mesh kits, might be worth a look on their web site.

Re: Front & Rear Bumper Covers
My intent was to make sure the grills are de-rusted and repainted. I wasn't sure whether to get them sandblasted and galvanised. I believe one can get stainless grills too; is this true ?

Front & Rear Bumper Covers
Hi
Is there anything peculiar about taking off the front or rear bumper covers ? I have the workshop manual for the TF, and it all seems quite straightforward, but I'm always a bit suspicious when something seems easy !

Re: Have values gone up?
I am cogitating selling my 2010 MG TF135, made by MG Motor, but it's almost impossible to find what might be a reasonable price to advertise it at as there were so few made. I've had the car 6 years, and its been very very good, and has the N-series engine, so I've had no worries about head gaskets....

Re: Trouble comes thick and fast
From what I found, the seat facings are leather, but the rest of the covers are leathercloth. The seats are black so don't show the dirt, but plent came off onto the application rag using the Xymol. I did the steering wheel cover at the same time.

Re: Trouble comes thick and fast
Got its MOT at the same time, no advisories and perfect emissions figures. So all is well. So I decided to give the leather seat facings a clean today using my favourite cleaner called Zymöl. A lot of dirt came off, not surprising as the car is 10 years old now, and I have never cleaned the leather ...

Re: Trouble comes thick and fast
Garage rang to report "all well". They replaced a coil pack and the assoc ignition lead. As the ignition leads are only supplied in pairs, they fitted the second one to the good coil pack. Lets hope this keeps going a while longer !

Re: Trouble comes thick and fast
Car went in to the shop today, misfiring as bad as ever, it seemed like it was only running on two cylinders. Now a question - can misfiring like this damage the catalyst ?

Re: Trouble comes thick and fast
I'm now having to wait until Mon 14th Sept before the garage can take the TF in. Its all down to a big rush on MOTs that were extended but now have to be done. I looked out my Carsoft i930 and managed to get a fault code telling me No 2 cylinder is misfiring. This little scanner is good, but when I ...

Re: Trouble comes thick and fast
Well, I'm certainly hoping it is an easy fix ! I have just whacked out a load of money for wheel refurbing following clipping a kerb the other week. Also decided to replace the fuel filler cap due to its manky appearance, (see my other post), but that is quite a cheap fix. All in all, though, up to ...

Trouble comes thick and fast
My cup runneth over ! I've now got a really awful misfire with the TF since last week. The car starts OK then immediately the misfire commences and remains even when the engine has warmed up. The only diagnostic tool I have in an iCarsoft 930, bought when I had a 2003 Jaguar XJ6. It only lists Jagua...

Re: Fuel filler cap - mission impossible !!
I presume the new cap has the blue piece? If so cut the end off the old one and it will release the barrel. However, make sure you have the cap the same way up. I made the mistake of putting the barrel in upside down and it wouldn't operate, so had to buy another cap. So obvious ! My new cap indeed...

Fuel filler cap - mission impossible !!
My fuel filler cap is looking really doggy, so I bought a replacement, but with no key, seeking to keep the original to avoid having two on the keyring; silly me ! So MGOC Spares have supplied me with a filler cap less keybarrel, and I have looked up the instructions on how to swap the key barrel fr...

Re: Growling wiper motor
The motor casings on all F/TF's suffer from water ingress. If your lucky you can unbolt the motor casing and empty out the water/sludge and dry out the motor before reassembling. Drilling a drain hole at the lowest point on the casing (when fitted to the car) can stop it recurring. If your unlucky ...

Growling wiper motor
Is the wiper motor on late TFs a problem ? Reason to ask is that we were out in the car last week on a rainy day with the wipers on almost continuoulsy and I heard this growling/grinding noise that sounded as if a helicopter was hovering over the car ! Turning off the wipers it stopped. Later in the...

Re: Suddne loss of coolant
Sorry to be so tardy in reporting back ! Problem was found to be a plastic pipe connector at the front of the engine. This is a very late component from MG Motor and whilst I managed to get one eventually, the garage fixed the problem by replacing it with a gas pipe T-piece with suitable connectors ...

Red colour disappearing on my front calipers
The red paint is disappearing on my lovely 4-pot calipers on my 2009 TF. If anybody has repainted theirs, could they recommend a decent long-lasting coating, please. I suspect much of it was due to use of wheel cleaner, but I don't use that.

FIXED: Hose connector not on the spares diagrams
Just a final report on this..... The part number for this connector is PER000150 and I obtained it from Endon Services Limited based in Stok-on-Trent. I had ordered it before the garage came back with their proposed metal part. It appears that the spares drawings and listings were never updated to s...
