Re: Cleaning MG TF headlamp covers
I had to polish the headlights on a 2003 Jaguar XJ6 which were starting to get dulled from sunlight UV. Best to use a paint polishing kit. It's quite an effort by hand, (my arm was almost falling off with the Jaguar job !), but it does work eventually

Re: Boiling coolant - radiator not hot
As these engines, (K-series), are notorious for head gasket failure, you could also get the coolant checked for combustion gases. This is done using an electronic device.
Of course with a cool radiator, thermostat failure does seem the most likely candidate

Sun visor - MG TF
Wouldn't it be nice if some kind MG aftermarket supplier could just reproduce the flap on this device ! Maybe the MGOC spares operation could do so. Like the left side a few years ago, the right (driver) side flap broke its securing tang the other week on my 2009 TF. They always break on the hinge t...

Awful roads mean I use the TF less than I'd like
The roads are now in such appalling condition now, that I'm getting increasingly reluctant to take the TF out. Of course the TF ride is not the most compliant, even though I have the so-called "Comfort" pack of Bilstein mono-tube shocks and the relevant springs. I find I am constantly on the lookout...

Re: TF Tyres
They will likely be either Falken ZE912's or ZE914's. The current model suitable for the F & TF is the ZE310 which was released in 2019. Sent from my SM-M315F using Tapatalk A quick internet search shows ZE914, and ZE310 but the ZE914 doesn't seem all that freely available. One has to ask what the ...

Re: TF Tyres
I know this thread has been going for almost ever, but on our trip for Drive-It Day on Sunday 23rd APril, I got a real blow-out and the tyre was totally destroyed, the inner wall completely collapsing. This may be because I couldn't stop where it blew, it was just too dangerous to stop and change a ...

Re: 2009 TF COOLING SYSTEM QUESTION
Two years ago, (or is it three, Covid makes my memory fail !), I had the same failure and the garage replaced the plastic part with a three way cast iron gas connector suitably modified with connectors for the various pipes. Due to its weight, this was then secured to the rear bulkhead area so it di...

Re: Chinese MG TFs
I had a look around the 'net, and it seems less than 1000 chinese TFs were built; not many at all ! There is a pipe connection to the heater that was changed and when I was having the coil packs replaced, (common issue ?), they showed me this plastic connector was about to fail. If you look on the s...

Chinese MG TFs
Is the market for the few TFs built by the Chinese any different to that for the MG Rover cars ? I ask because mine has the 'N' series engine, so I don't anticipate any problems there, although I've had one or two minor problems elsewhere. In fact the car has been very good once I put the proper tyr...

Re: air con condenser
In cases like this, you need to find out if the evaporator is used in any other MG Rover cars, so you can possibly find a used one. However, the Rimmers price of £180 doesn't look bad to me, there are some really expensive prices if you search. The Rimmer price is for NOS, so new, but been on a ware...

Re: Extra (and nuisance) bracket on front bumper cover
Did the rear bumper grill a few days ago, (or is it a "diffuser" ?). No problems at all except for a very rusty grill and one very rusty securing screw that would not come loose so I cut the tab off the bumper, The grill is now held on by one less screw, and these are now well waxoyled ! The new gri...

Re: Extra (and nuisance) bracket on front bumper cover
An Update Well, finally removed bumper today, and replaced the lower grill, and a heavily rusted security cover over the bonnet latch. This latter item was in incredibly bad condition, yet everywhere else, no rust at all ! It just shows how badly painted some items can be. I have put on a load of e...

Extra (and nuisance) bracket on front bumper cover
Hi My very late MG TF built by MG Motor has an additional fastening at the middle-bottom of the front bumper cover. This has a lip with two screws securing the cover to a bracket bolted on at the other end to the front of the body. The two screws have their heads facing rearwards and are an absolute...

Re: Windscreen washer pump - failure ?
An Update Today I managed to get the washer bottle out which was a bit if a PITA, to be honest with so much in the way. The pump then comes out quite easily. My son-in-law came round to help, so with my old AVO meter, I checked that volts were being supplied to the pump. Yes they were, so ordered a...

Windscreen washer pump - failure ?
Is failure of the windscreen washer pump fairly common ? After a bit of a slumber over winter, the last long run was Drive It Day, but this was dry and I can't remember if the washers were used. Yesterday went to a car rally in Lytham St Annes, and no washer action, not a peep ! Last time I remember...

Re: Seized bolts... Cambelt about 3 years over due..
Lower ball joint is a bit peculiar; you have to drill out or grind-off the rivets holding it on. The replacements are supplied with bolts to replace the rivets. The part is not expensive at all, the labour charge will be the big part of the bill if you take it to a workshop. https://rimmerbros.com/I...
