A 2004 gear knob definitely unscrews anticlockwise. I had one which was threadlocked on and used a strap oil filter tool to remove.

Not inevitable, 125 k done. Still on original headgasket I believe. I have owned the car for 10 years with the engine pushed hard on track days ect.

Hi, I would suspect that the cam timing is correct if the engine was running fine. It looks like the cam sprockets have been fitted incorrectly. Hi, unplug the Lamba sensors and remove with the exhaust. The system needs to be dismantled to remove. Spray the nuts and bolts with penetrating fluid and they may come off. I would drain the oil to see if water is present in the sump. I could be the inlet manifold gasket if the car has been stood for some time but could also be a slow external leak
