I think that's the eyes on the subframes - the rear eye is for pulling the car out of the hedge when the back end's given way

Yes, the centre console and dial surround in the 115 models are plain black.

A walnut-effect heater surround panel from a Rover 25 can be adapted to fit your MGF.

Just an update: I dropped the cover idea and bought a polytunnel instead. Pic to follow!
