2002 TF 135/160 Spares/Repair

My TF has had a head gasket failure and after professional inspection, it's apparent the head is shot (overheated/softened) and the cylinder liners have dropped, so be a new engine will be required if intended for repair. How can it be a 135/160? The V5 (and VIN decode) says it's a 135, but it has a...

Re: Worth the risk?

Hi Rob, sudden overheating, loss of coolant. Got it back home by constant refilling (experience causes me to carry big bottles of water in every car!). Emulsified oil. The coolant wasn't being deposited on the ground so it was being "used" internally, which did suggest a gasket, I think. Had a local...

Re: Worth the risk?

Don't really want to spend that much on her. It was a 50/50 toss for having the head replaced (hence this thread) so the cost of a new engine would tip it over for us. However for someone else, it may be an option. The body is all good for the year (02), etc. For us it's more that we're actually loo...

Re: Worth the risk?

Well, Steve from MG Rover mobile mechanics has just left and, sadly, she's dead Jim. Signs of the head having overheated before (our ownership) and the liners had dropped so he pronounced at the scene. So, anyone interested in a BRG for breaking/parts? Has the 160 interior trim, all panels in good n...

Re: Worth the risk?

Thanks all, I'm leaning towards a mobile replacement. Not just because I suspect (hope) it'll be fine once fixed, but also because it solves transport issues that are looming... I've found one local company: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261974831481 that seems to have great feedback, etc. so I've given...

Re: Wiper Linkage Fallen Off

Hmm. Not good service in today's market, especially as it's completely unused, never been near the car. Apparently they're on holiday till the the 4th August so it may simply be they've not seen the mail yet.

Worth the risk?

My TF (2002) which, apart from the wiper linkage problem a week or so ago, has been faultless for two years has decided to blow its head gasket. My local mechanic (whose opinion I value) has recommended it's not worth risking a repair as the block/head might be warped and it could be good money afte...

Re: Wiper Linkage Fallen Off

Update. I got the Mike Satur version but then, once I had the whole lot apart, I found a way to use the original repair clips and it seems to have held well. I've tried to return the MS version but so far they've not replied.

Re: Wiper Linkage Fallen Off

OK, ordered the Mike Satur version, I'll update once it arrives and I've had a chance to fit. Thanks all, especially cavaddict for the offer of help and Helsbyman for pointing towards the MS version...

Re: Wiper Linkage Fallen Off

That's very kind of you, cavaddict, it'd be very welcome. The motor on mine is fine, so I can return the motor (or provide you with a second spare) as I have no room to store such things... Having said that, the Mike Satur version looks good and is a reasonable price. I guess there's always a chance...

Re: Wiper Linkage Fallen Off

Thanks for the help cavaddict, I appreciate it. Sounds like the only solution is replacement of the linkages with this: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-DKT000010UR Seems you can buy replacement originals, but the price isn't that much different and I'd rather get something "all in one" that is g...

Re: Wiper Linkage Fallen Off

That's the one cavaddict! The passenger side is the top link, which came off, allowing the driver's side beneath it to simply work it's way off the spindle. So is the top link "permanently" fixed to the spindle? i.e. it can't be repaired?

I'm in Masham, North Yorks, near Ripon.

Wiper Linkage Fallen Off

Hi all, out the other evening in the rain, the wipers on my 02 135 stopped working (first the passenger side, then the drivers). A wet examination revealed that the linkage arms had come away from the crank arm at the motor . It's clear that the passenger side arm is the one that holds on the driver...
