Re: Work in progress

I've been slightly concerned about the oil temperature, but it's never gone any higher than 130. I've decided to stop being paranoid, and just keep an eye on the dials. If the temperatures go much past its 'normal' range, then I'll have some time to sit and enjoy the countryside while she cools down...

Re: Hydrogas

Its not safe to do, and could break your hydragas spheres from what mg-rover forum's is saying. Apparantly Air is compressible whereas fluid is not, and the fluid is at around 400psi. Are you tyres rubbing on the arches ?

Re: Hello fellow Yellow bellies!

Shame, I had my beast kicking out in the wet today so the rain isn't too bad! Yellow / Yeller Belly is a name for people who are from Lincolnshire, but no one's sure of its origin

Re: Work in progress

Finally managed to gain access to a toolkit and vehicle ramps. On the way I passed someone in an MGF on Caistor top where we traded a headlamp flash. While doing my brakes and dowpipe I got a decent chance to check everything over. She's perfect underneath for a 16 year old car, however the ball joi...

Hello fellow Yellow bellies!

I posted an introduction in the Welcome section but thought I'd say hello here too. I live near to Rasen and have an MGF 1.8 VVC which is undergoing some mild "restoration" work. This weekend I'm fitting new brake disks and pads all round, along with the Exhaust downpipe. Hopefully I can find out wh...

Re: Work in progress

I had my first overheating experience whilst idling in a petrol station for 5 min's. After a quick restart of the engine, I set off again because I don't want to claim on my insurance for a whole petrol station filled with cars! She returned to normal temperature when I got moving again, so there is...

Re: perplexing MGF suspension noises...

Arnty, my bill so far stands at £60 for 2 part worn front tyres, £70 for 4 new disks and pads, £40 for the front downpipe. Next week I have £100 for wishbones, and around £50 - £75 for the ball end joints, and track rod ends. Then I'm hoping my baby will be a little less scary to drive! That's 1/3 o...

Re: Work in progress

Google produces "Nothing you can do, silly motorists in a rush"... I guess its time to start pricing up some more parts  In terms of replacement parts, I'm thinking of starting at: Cylinder Head Coolant Outlet Radiator Underfloor Coolant Pipes Radiator and Underfloor Coolant Hoses I'm probably ...

Re: Work in progress

Update I figured out the reason I can't bleed the cooling system... Turns out the previous owner has used half a bottle of Radweld (found it in the boot), which I suspect has sealed the bleed points fast. I'm going to have to get that gunk out of my system and find the source of the leak, then repa...

I got my beastie home after 2 part worn tyres were put on the front and her levels were checked. She's done 90,000 and appears to be running fine, I've driven her around 300 miles. Oil temperature holds at 120oC and Engine temperature is 1 * below central. The maintenance work I need to do now I hav...

Re: Hey

Cheers for the tips Gary, first thing I done when I got the keys! Coolant and oil were both normal. I had two part worn tyres fitted to the front because the inside thread was non-existent. A garage gave me a list of things that should be sorted out so tomorrow, I'm hunting for a downpipe as my flex...

Re: MOT tomorrow

My friend got pulled after he got HID's installed. He had the originals in his car, and the cop's just told him to sort it out when he got home. I think they only pull over people when they're either too bright, and / or the beam is too high and dazzles people.

Hey

The day I passed my driving test I got to drive an MG F, it wasn't the best looked after, but it was so nice to drive despite its age and appearance. Last week I was told I had an MG F 1.8l VVC waiting for me to pick up. I'm yet to drive it, but I've been lurking on the forum for information on the ...
