Re: Slightly miffed

Fair play Daz. As best as I understood is that the mls is too thick for the guides on the engines which werent built to use it. (take note that im a noob with kseries and could have misunderstood) That makes it easier the seal less effective or something. Either way, good luck with your TfF and your...

Re: Slightly miffed

Mine may yet be repaired it seems. I may have misunderstood but when speaking with someone in the know, the MLS gasket has It's own issues on older vvc engines. The chap I spoke with builds engines more often than I eat and he only uses single layered gaskets. The reason being that failure is always...

Re: Heroes and villains and why I'm leaving you all...

Thanks Malcolm..I do hope I have a ft I can love for many years. Bit of an update... The trader who sold the car to me will now be performing repairs on the vehicle. I very sincerely hpe that they'll be done to a good standard and that I can keep the car. Suffice to say I will soon be either singing...

Re: Heroes and villains and why I'm leaving you all...

Thanks guys..at least out of all this mess I have found one really awesome garage in retro lifestyle and I may be a little wiser on what to look out for. Additionally Chris from retro lifestyle has even offered to look any car over that I think may be a good one...seriously you don't find people lik...

Re: Slightly miffed

Sorry to read this Daz. I have just posted in the general section as to why I'm leaving the tf fold for a while and it is also a tale of woe much like yours.
I have lost a lot of confidence in being able to find a good condition tf now.

Heroes and villains and why I'm leaving you all...

Well people I've not been here very long, having only bought my mg tf at the end of May. I think this is a wonderful community and I will very sadly miss you all. After a suspected (definite) head gasket fail I took the car to be repaired at a garage close by in Brighouse. Anyone who is anywhere nea...

Re: Intermittant overheating

Thanks Rob. It hadn't got to the gunky coolant stage but was overheating and the oil was more than just the odd mayo deposit. I'm praying that the engine doesn't have cracks or it'll be going back to the trader who sold her to me. After spending £1k since buying the car just over month ago ( on tyre...

Re: MGF VVC tyre pressures

Adrian I did have the pressures set at 34/28 until she went off to the garage today. It was a lot better than 36psi at the rear and 26 at the front but still not exceptional..especially compared to the 4 various budgets..and I did expect a lot more from the falkens so I will definitely still play wi...

Re: MGF VVC tyre pressures

Agreed Rob, I will still be playing around with pressures when mine returns. I would say that the standard pressure, especially for the rear, is not a good setting from my experience.
Think i may have to try the 28 all round approach now.

Re: Suspension again

When I owned my marvelous MG metro in 1998 the price of getting the system pumped up was aroung £40.
Even then many garages had to borrow kit to do the job from thr main Rover dealer :-D

Re: K-Seal ultimate head gasket repair

A failed sniffer test suggests that the gasket is leaking around the fire ring. :( That can mean: 1. The liners have dropped 2. The cylinder head has gone soft (previous overheating) 3. The cylinder head has porosities around the landing area for the liners. The worst case is possibly (2), as you'l...

Re: K-Seal ultimate head gasket repair

Im hoping and praying that the dealer ,from which I bought my TF, didnt use this stuff as a quick fix before selling me the car.
Around 600 miles and the oil now looks like mud with a failed snifer test yesterday evening.

If this crap was used as a quick fix will my engine be scrap for certain?

Re: TF Tyres

Thanks again, I'll be giving it a whirl soon, however I have a far more pressing issue atm. Despite constantly keeping amn eye on the water levels and temperature I think the lovely little motor was sold to me with an issue that has now become more than slightly apparent...the usual HGF. Looks likei...

Re: TF Tyres

I currently have 26/36 front and rear respectively. When pressed the back feels quite skittish so I think I will try them set at the same pressure which you have. As said, I would expect them to feel a lot better than the random assortment of budget tyres which were on the car when I bought it but t...

Re: TF Tyres

Righty..for reference. Today I finally got the full falken treatment. Correct sizes and at correct pressure all round. I can honestly say that they either need a fair bit of scrubbing in or tyre pressure is the entire deal with tf tyre performance. From 4 random budget tyres and different on each co...
