Re: Heroes and villains and why I'm leaving you all...
Well I've had the car back for a few weeks now and it has lost only an 1/8th pint of water in that time of doing roughly 200 miles..likely just levelling out. (i hope) I expect the job to have not been done right and it'll likely go again in a few thousand miles but this is life I guess.it's also go...

Re: Top 10 MGF Mods?
For just over £300 a KMAPS ECU will bag you a nicer feeling engine that will pull better throughout the entire range and allow you to pull 7.5k revs.
takes less than 5 minutes to fit.
I don't think many mods can compare for ease of installation and increase in smiles as just a single quick hit tbh.

Re: MGF rattly engine?
VVC engines re rattly. Changing the tappets wont help much eto quieten them down either. The bearings in the housing at each side of the head become starved of oil on startup and over time develop the beautiful rattlyness. I've been told that it is the use of poor oil filters which causes this as th...

Only done a few mods to my TF and I can't count new Falken tyres as one of them really.

Re: Easy question..
I guess so, thank you...on a plus note it means that the car is in need of further inspection. The dealer did say that he would change the thermostat as it was reading low.
With this all cleared up I can be certain where it should be when up to temp.

Re: Heroes and villains and why I'm leaving you all...
Appreciated..I was of a similar mind myself but there does seem to be a lot of posts around where people have bypassed it win no reason of faults.
As with the trophy 160 that doesn't have one with the same engine.

Re: Easy question..
Thanks nick, same on my rover coupe turbo.
Just a few mm below the middle of the gauge.
I think everyone assumes that all the gauges on the mgf and TF are the same.
It seems apparent that they aren't.

Re: Heroes and villains and why I'm leaving you all...
I know..perhaps I'm a little too considerate..if push comes to shove I'll pay for a new oil cooler fitting myself. His argument seems pretty strong that it's not essential for a car which you would drive normally in uk temperatures.

Re: Heroes and villains and why I'm leaving you all...
Well I'm still here and still awaiting the repairs to be completed. The dealer took collection of the car 2 weeks ago and there is still, I think, quite a bit to go. He has convinced me that the bypassed oil cooler isnt such a bad thing and one is only needed if you're ragging it constantly or on tr...

Re: Easy question..
It seems not an easy answer...there are different gauges I think.
The gauge on my tf has just one notch between middle and bottom. Similarly one notch between middle and max.
Should the temp be just below middle or only climb a quarter way up the gauge?

Re: Easy question..
Thanks..I thought so but mine always sat at middle.
The dealer now repairing the car has said that the temp seems low after replacing the head gasket but I wondered if he was expecting the same.

Easy question..
Where should the water temp gauge needle sit?
Once the engine is warm..is it...
Middle of the gauge?
Or
Just one mark up the gauge?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Alternative "Rag Tops"
I do think that in today's market the brands are no longer so relevant where reliability is concerned. Certainly not in European cars anyhow. Japanes always seem to be well thought of but I too was looking at MX5s and although we get hgf with the f/tf, the mazda are prone to rusting and flawed elect...

Re: Alternative "Rag Tops"
To my mind there have been some seriously fun French cars over the years. I'll add here that my MG metro with a tuned 130hp nasp engine was one of the most fun cars I've ever had. But, R5 turbo, pug 205, pug 106 rallye, clio 172..they weren't all terrible in reliability or build by comparison to oth...
