To add my 2 pence worth
I can recommend technozen. I sent him my 5AS unit and back came 2 fobs coded to the unit and the EKA code set to my preference. All done over mail. Much cheaper than keep calling out the local car key guy.

MG F VVC recommision
Hi all, Some of you may remember a few posts from me over the last 11 months about cylinder head and gasket related problems on a 1996 MG F VVC? I haven't posted on here for a while and thought I would pop on a provide an update. Having got her back running with a new head gasket/belts/pump et al, I...

VVC split cams
Hi all, not been on here for a while as I have had health issues. Anyhow, is there anyone that can help me from major memory blank? I am in the process of a head swap on my 1996 MGF VVC, had to make one good head out of two by swapping cam carriers over. If someone can refresh my memory, with the re...

160 head on a 143 block
Hi all,
Is there any outstanding reason why a 160hp reated head will not fit/not a good idea to mate to a 143 block? I am not after any hp gain, it's just to replace the paperweight that is my current 143 head.
Thanks in advance,
Matty

Re: Non Starting MGF
Update. Cylinder head is a paperweight, too far corroded to be cost effectively repaired. The lesson there is to always use the correct antifreeze mixed with distilled water. At a crossroads now as to whether I sell the car as a non runner, source a new VVC head, source a new engine or go the whole ...

Re: Non Starting MGF
Thanks Nigel, There is a bit in the manual about keeping the inlet cams in sync with each other, I assume that is done with the thin spindle that goes from the VVC unit across the back of the head where the two parts of the head are joined and then into the VVC mech? My plan was to keep all that tog...

Re: Non Starting MGF
So, if I take the cams out, what happens to the timing? I realise this might be a silly question, but am I correct in thinking that the cams sit in a dowel or some other locating pin on the cam wheels so you just insert it all and line up the timing marks as normal?

FB_IMG_1496416846909.jpg Exhaust port number 4 looks like that. I don't think the inlet is to blame. No water marks or anything there. The only thing I can't work out is how so much coolant is being lost, I can't see a hole of a size that would explain it. I also can't see how it is getting into th...

Re: Non Starting MGF
So, been at the F today and it has a coolant problem that I have never seen before. The coolant just drains from the header tank and drops out of the exhaust back box, you can watch it drain. I drilled two holes in the back box as it's scrap anyway and I have a new one. Anyone had this before? I can...

Re: Non Starting MGF
Had a quick gander at it today. No coolant in the header tank. Got a major leak inside the head/block somewhere. Bores are dry but the oil level is way up. So I assume my coolant is sat in the sump. Time to cut my losses I think.

Re: Non Starting MGF
So, anyone that has been following this or anyone that is interested? I Have forged ahead with the HG change and associated belts, pumps, and gasket replacement. Car struck up first time of asking, but it still has white smoke/steam from the exhausts as it did before the HG change. This has dismayed...

Manual Tensioner Timing Belt
Hi all, Does anyone have any opinion on the removal of the spring from the manual cambelt tensioner after it has done it's job and the tensioner is torqued down. Some say remove it as it has done it's job and is redundant after the bolts are tight. Some say to leave it in place as it isn't doing any...

Coolant Temp Sensor (Gauge)
Hi all, While I am in the process of changing the HG on my F, I have noticed the Coolant Temp Sensor(Gauge) is missing the wire. As in, the sensor is present in the end of the block but it has no wire with a connector to connect it to the gauge. I think the wire should be Green with a Blue trace. If...

[I am more than happy to donate my old ECU, 5AS and fob to the Pscan chap if he can use it to help others. Thanks. I should be able to figure out which ECU has the fault if I can have your old 5AS, MEMS and key fobs. I have sent a PM with a postal address. Hermes picked it up this morning, it is on...
