Re: Keys locked in boot

If anyone would PM me the other ways of doing it, I'd be interested.

Keys locked in boot

I'm a complete idiot. Put tools away in boot, put bag with keys in too, then closed the boot. Is there any easier way to get in than the 'Treffen method' (particularly given my 10mm ratchet spanner is in the boot)? I'm quite short on tools right now but I can always borrow some if I have to. If the ...

Re: Brexit

Brexit? That's the thing that means that for two years the politicians haven't had to answer questions about how they're running the country? And now they've voted to string it out longer? I'm much more interested in talking about driving holidays. Why do people do it? Just so they have a car at the...

How many toes do you really need? :thumbsu:

Talking of painting brake parts, doesn't brake fluid take paint off?

Can you take power from an always-live feed via a latching relay switched by the signal to the central locking?

Re: Cam cover: to paint or not to paint: that’s the question

Traditional high temperature paints usually chip more easily than low temp because they have to be harder to counteract heat softening. Enamel paint is particularly hard, which means it doesn't chip quite as easily, but will chip badly if you hit it hard enough. Modern alkyd/resin paints are more fl...

Re: 1.8vvc Track Car Mission Creep!

Longitudinal? Interesting. Have you got it mounted a bit further forwards than the original engine's position? Just wondering about weight distribution. I've often thought about a V8 swap, but I was thinking transverse because a V8 is roughly the same length as an I4. And thinking about it is as far...

You can definitely get high temperature lacquer. But personally I wouldn't bother. Stove blacking, then go down the pub :)

If it's practically free, I could insure it... Anyone want a 1989 Toyota Camry with 65k miles on the clock? :)

Re: Interior Strip Out - Leaks.......

Just to rule out the simplest thing, do you have the plastic cover for that area? I can imagine some idiot p/o might have removed it. I had a quick look at mine today to check, and I think the whole front boot is supposed to be dry. So the thing to fix is whatever's letting water in there in the fir...

Re: Interior Strip Out - Leaks.......

Is that a sealing grommet or just to stop it rattling? I'm not sure, but isn't it supposed to be dry there? If so, then working out why the front boot is so wet may help.

Re: Brake fluid change without a lift

IME cheap vacuum pumps have a pump that's useful, but the adaptors that are supposed to fit the bleed nipple are completely useless. Easily remedied with a bit of narrow tubing - I can't remember the size, something like 3-5mm - and a twist of wire, but then there's little point bothering. The syste...

Re: HELP! Which Battery Type/Spec' please?

I just checked my EBay history, I have an 063 or 001 sized battery in there now. I'd forgotten that the same size can have more than one code, just to make it even harder. Once you've found something, double check the listed dimensions against the actual size of the battery bay before purchasing. Re...

Re: HELP! Which Battery Type/Spec' please?

There are lots of battery shapes that fit, not just 075. Off the top of my head, there are several the same width as 075 but different lengths, and the battery tray already has the holes to clamp them. Batteries are incredibly simple, all you need is something that fits in the space, has at least th...

Re: Interior Strip Out - Leaks.......

The adhesive is rubbish. Apart from that it's just a bit of foam.

I don't think a new set of seals is too expensive, but if you want something cheaper, I'll bet it's a standard profile you can buy by the meter on ebay these days.

Re: Car required constant steering run out of ideas.

When I got mine the suspension needed pumping up by several cm; before being done the handling was terrifyingly twitchy. I don't understand how cold weather doesn't cause the same thing, since the ride height drops so much. Correcting for current UK temps, isn't the OP's car sitting too high? But it...

Re: Mist Grey sun visors

I have found that getting a pair of sun visors for by 1998MY F in the correct colour is nearly impossible. Rimmer's advise they are no longer being made; and the Chinese replacements are the darker Ash Grey from the TF which will not match my car. We have a few wreckers in Australia but none have t...
