mgf mark1 windscreen wipers
Does anyone know if I can use mgf mark 2 windscreen wiper linkage & motor on a mark 1 mgf by just changing the harness plug used on the mark 1 for the little grey plug used on the mgf mark 2 and tf?

Re: Cat astrophy
Changing Cat after 6 years is good value for money, so I would not be overly fuss about that. Ceramic inside cat is going to brake and can make you problems. You can go my route, and buy stainless steal custom made exhaust with metal instead of ceramic inside the cat. But then you will have louder ...

Re: Cat astrophy
You lost the ceramic mat that keeps all catalyst in place and after that the honeycomb just rattled around until it broke up. The cost of the catalyst has little effect on the ceramic substrate as all catalyst manufacturers buy in the substrate from substrate manufacturers ( Last time I looked there...

Re: Hardtop time
When it's on the road I'll use the F all the time, nothing beats driving to work at 5.30 am in light snow in mid February with the roof down. and the heater on full - Yup! My son wouldn't agree with you though, he's a lot taller ( like 6ft 7 ) and the top of his head pokes nicely into the slip scre...

Re: Manual or automatic timing belt tensioners
The only safe way is to check the width of the belt, as someone else has said if its 26 mm its also auto tension. I very nearly got caught out as my car was made in the change over period and the motor factors swore it was a 23 mm. It was a nice sunny day so I checked and yes it was a 26 mm! I get t...

Re: French MOT & Emmisions
couldn't agree more. The only point to make sure of if you import from the UK is that if its bought from a garage make sure the V5 is in their name, or that you can get the previous owner to sign off on the French change of owner document. Its not happened to me, but it can cause you problems with b...

Re: French MOT & Emmisions
Unless your MGF is a left hand drive model it may be a cheaper (and easier) option to buy a replacement car in the UK rather than trying to source and replace subframes etc. The chances of you finding a decent MGF in a scrap yard in France is pretty remote. (A LHD export model MGF will still have a...

Re: Is this a genuine MG Cat?
The UK is just about the only place in Europe where "Reverse Engineered" (Chinese Copy Parts ) may be legally fitted to a car. In nearly all other countries only OEM of "TUV Approved" Aftermarket" (of which there are very few with EBC being one of them).may be used All of the Swedish Wheels coming ...

Re: Is this a genuine MG Cat?
It could be, it depends how many suppliers Rover had. The catalyst would come from ASEC or JM ( normally two sources ) and then on to another company or companies for canning ( Fiat / Alfa in the 1990s used no less than 7 different canners and they all looked a bit different!). The canning was frequ...

French MOT & Emmisions
Took the Mgf in for its MOT today, more to find out what needed doing than to pass, and to my amazement it passed. Last MOT it scraped though (just ) on emmisions after three attempts, this year it was as clean as a whistle and all I'd done was change the air temperature and water temperature sensor...

Re: MGF gearbox cross member
Great minds think alike - wire brushed, rust treated, painted and undersealed, given that it lives in a garage and hasn't been out in winter since its last MOT, I find it hard to believe that its much worse than it was at its last MOT and it got through that OK. Perhaps the great god of old MGs will...

MGF gearbox cross member
Ho hum, just had the car up on the ramps before its MOT ( every two years in France ) and the gearbox crossmember ( or londitudinal member rear subrame LH according Rimmer) is badly corroded at the bottom flange. I have the horrible feeling its going to fail. There appears to be two ref numbers for ...

French MOT & MGF tyres
If you've got 16 inch wheels and 215/40 tyres and put it in for the French Controle Tecnique ( French MOT ) be sure to have your MGF handbook with you. My tester wanted to give me an advisory on non standards tyres because his computer didn't list 16/215/40s for the mgf. He backed off when I showed ...

Hi there play mates Has anyone bought one of these head up displays they seem a good thing and if you have which one did you get :thumbsu: I'm running a HUD/ GPS on my 1999 MGF as I wanted KMPH in nice big numbers ( Radar traps are fierce in this part of France ) as I'm still running on the UK spee...

Re: CAT life
My MGF still has its 21 year old catalytic converter and sailed through it's MoT in January. :D I suspect that it won't be the internals that will lead to its ultimate demise, but rather external corrosion as Charles describes... It's already discarded its external heat shield... :? It tends to be ...

Re: MGF mark 1 downpipes & O2 sonde
You would think so wouldn't you. But according to the maintenance history when I bought the car, it had had the sensor replaced early in its life, I had to replace it when it went through its French reception MOT 2011 ( that was when I lost most of the skin off my knuckles ), changed it in 2015 afte...
