Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
I took it out for a nice country lane drive this morning all over Shropshire then got some breakfast :) The rev limiter seems to kick in at 5500 at the moment and I checked for codes with odb scanner which says something about powertrain will take a screenshot. From a bit of googling it either sound...

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
So it got through it's MOT last week with a few suspension bits needing doing which came to only £200 at the usual garage I use. The guy reckoned the rocker cover gasket oil leak is so minor that I may as well just keep an eye on the oil level rather than pay the labour to resolve it. The driveshaft...

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
Yeah I'd rather not have that uncertainty to be honest!
Where would you recommend buying a battery from?

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
I've got one of the modern ones that are meant to adjust charge but it just says error on the LCD which according to the manual indicates battery is faulty. Does anywhere sell older style ones that you mentioned?

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
It charged back up fine but would drain if not used for a week or so back down to 9v-ish
Went away for Xmas and the car was standing for like 2 weeks and the battery has drained completely won't even charge. Does that indicate that perhaps the battery needs replacing anyway?

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
The battery read 9.9v so currently got it on charge.
The bolt for the clamp is rusted to hell so I'm charging it in the car on the drive using an extension lead

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
I gave mobile mechanics an email the other week and they reckon around £650 to resolve all my major issues based on what I've listed in this thread earlier on. Fast forward to today my other car Suzuki Swift is in the garage for a new clutch and I'd not driven the TF for about a week. It refused to ...

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
A 10mm ratchet spanner is useful for undoing the 3 bolts under the t bar. Don't forget to throw these 3 bolts away & never refit them again. Funnily enough the 3 bolts under the T-bar were missing in mine! Took off the engine cover yesterday to check out that top end oil leak and it seems to ...

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
I hear what you’re saying. If you’re willing to take it to a garage and pay them to do what needs doing then that will be easier, but I think it will be cheaper to just sell it and guy a really good one, but then you still have to actually find a really good one... I’d get some prices and make a de...

Re: Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
I don't want to say I told you so, but if you look back at my first response on your old thread I said... "I would say spend as much as you can afford on the best example you can find, as if you buy a cheap one it'll probably only end up costing you in the long term, so it can be a false economy" I...

Advice re: issues with recently acquired TF160
'Got my eye on an F & a TF' (http://www.mgfregister.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=23629&start=100#p183037) was my original thread, figured it would be worth starting a new one about this rather than continuing to stretch that one out. I bought the car back in late August/beginning of September for £...

Re: Got my eye on an F & a TF
That's good news about the sump oil leak probably not being a major issue. The rear sub-frame if it isn't just a case of cleaning and painting it, what kind of cost would I be looking at for a reconditioned one? I think the rear offside shock was showing a bit more play that it's meant to as well. W...

Re: Got my eye on an F & a TF
I'm based near Telford so Burton is not that far but far enough to be potentially a bit of a bugger to organise with work - will keep them in mind. One of the front sub-frame mounts is very rotten looking whereas the other was replaced very recently so I'm thinking in addition to the engine stuff th...

Re: Got my eye on an F & a TF
Yeah I was aware that even with the big checklist it was a roll of the dice with a used car of the age. I think the oil leak was coming from the sump but not 100%. The coolant is not leaking a great deal but looks to be coming from above the head gasket. Looking at the receipt the place that did the...

Re: Got my eye on an F & a TF
I might just stick a small self-adhesive piece of draught-seal in there... Used the AutoGlym soft top clean and waterproofing kit at the weekend which seems to have made the water bead off the top a lot better rather than being absorbed by the fabric. There are some feint but persistent green marks ...

Re: Got my eye on an F & a TF
Noticed there's a small gap in between the hood and the chassis nothing appears to be ripped or damaged though, any idea what the best way to readjust this would be if there is a way to do so?
