Re: MGF TF silver clock repair
Talk about thread resurrection! Hi All. Just had my clock apart, as per this thread. Got it to bits, then tried to power it with a 12v shore supply. All I got was a series of sparks off what I believe to be the negative terminal. Could this mean that the motor itself has had it? I have ringed where ...

Re: Stereo codes
Sadly not. It wasn't supplied with the car.

Stereo codes
Hi all. An oldie, I'm afraid. I have a head unit that has lost it's code. Does anyone know where we can get codes from, or will I have to have it "cracked?"

Re: Mk1 vs Mk2 mechanical differences
Having plugged the chassis number of the donor into Rimmers, it seems that my donor MK2 is on the MK1 side of the changes, so most things should be ok. I guess I'll see as I go along.

Re: Mk1 vs Mk2 mechanical differences
So are you planning to stick in the mk2 engine? Not in the next five minutes! I know that the electrics are different (or should be), so I will be salvaging the loom and associated odds and sods, too. I am really only breaking the donor because I have garage space to put parts in, but not quite eno...

Re: Mk1 vs Mk2 mechanical differences
Thanks for that. The engine is a 143 VVC, and is not in the best of health. I will be dropping the subframe (at least that's the plan), but I intend to recondition the engine and keep it as a spare. I will have to check to see which ecu I have later on. I do know that the engine had had the 52mm thr...

Mk1 vs Mk2 mechanical differences
Hi all. Sorry to raise the proverbial old chestnut. I have a mk1 VVC, and I have just bought a mk2 VVC as a donor. I didn't really realise that there were differences, because I am new at all of this. Is there a list somewhere of bits that don't fit from one to the other? I am thinking about things ...

Re: Where's Fiona Bruce when you need her?
As long as it's no further east than Broadstairs it shouldn't be a problem. Funny you should say that, because that's where I am! I know that there will be this bumper, a Pipercross air filter (not seen yet if it is a Venom or a Viper), and a set of (?)TF wheels, two with almost brand new Toyo tyre...

Re: Where's Fiona Bruce when you need her?
What is the paint code? HFF? If yes I may be interested in some parts, the O/S wing to start with. And maybe the doors. Where are you in the south east? Hi Talking, you'll have to forgive my staggering ignorance, but I have only been into the MGF world about a month! I am afraid that the front wing...

Where's Fiona Bruce when you need her?
Hi all. I am breaking a 1999MY mk2 MGF. I want to sell some of the bits off that I am not going to need. However, I don't really have any idea what various bits are worth. I look at fleabay, and it seems that some things sell for silly money, but other bits don't sell at reasonable prices. I want to...

Re: Hose clip removal
Yes, it's called "let the garage do it." The car is going in for a service and pipe replacement to the TF PRT. I already have the complete set of TF replacement pipes and PRT, but the clips on them are old and frankly pretty rotten. I wanted to change them all for Stainless ones, before I hand the w...

Hose clip removal
Hi all. Another piece of newbie stupidity. I am about to do the water pipe changeover on my F, and as part of it, I want to replace all the spring clips on the water pipes with stainless jubilee clips. However, I don't have any tool capable of releasing the spring clips! Anyone have a suggestion for...

Re: Alarm deactivation
Simply got a battery with a lot more punch to it, a new battery in the fob, and then hammered the buttons until it suddenly woke up. I knew that the battery in the car was dead, but I didn't stop and think that the one in the fob might be on it's last legs, too.

Re: Alarm deactivation
Thanks for the offer. Much appreciated. Fortunately, with a combination of some more electricity, and turning my remaining brain cell on, I have managed to get the central locking working.

Re: Alarm deactivation
I think I am having one of those lives... We disconnected the horns. Bingo! No alarm. Unfortunately, we now seem to have no central locking, either. The driver's door has unlocked with the key, but the passenger door appears to be deadlocked. It doesn't help that the car's battery is dead. I did jum...

Re: Alarm deactivation
That'll do me nicely. I have to admit, I assumed the alarm would have a battery back-up, and would probably continue to go off..daz wrote:disconnect the battery & lock the car with the key?

Alarm deactivation
Hi all. Apologies for coming in begging on my first post! I have just bought a '97 F, and am going at the weekend to look at a '99 F to buy as a donor. Thing is, it is going to take me a long time to break the donor, and I have been told that there are problems with the alarm going off randomly on i...
