Re: GL-4 spec gear oil

Looks like I will be changing the gearbox oil in 'Madge' fairly soon as gear selection when cold is a bit of a problem!

Re: Stiff gear change?

Going by the condition and cleanliness of 'Madge', she has never been driven in the wet and she was always garaged in a humidity controlled garage and I have given a very thorough going over underneath and I can't see any kind of corrosion or oxidisation of any parts anywhere, she is quite literally...

Stiff gear change?

I am quite new to the pleasures of owning a totally immaculate 2001 MGF and boy oh boy do I love the experience.............. However I am wondering if my one owner, 33,000 mile and very regularly serviced and cherished 'Madge' has a rather tight/stiff gearchange? With the exception of reverse gear ...

Re: Big Bill - What to do?

Well said Talkingcars, but please don't mention or suggest the MX5 as they do rust!! Get your 'F' repaired Dallas and then, when you get her back, spend some time underneath cleaning her up so she shines as well as the top side and then give her a good coating of a decent rust preventing spray. In f...

That is an interesting garage you have there.
I hope you get the TF sorted out soon so that you are able to enjoy the summer sun.

Re: Returned and looking for advice.

There are some distinct signs that the prices of good F's have bottomed out and are well on the way up. I almost bought one from Trophy Cars as they are quite literally just down the road from where I live, but there was something, I don't know what, but I/we simply didn't feel we could actually tru...

Re: Potential mgf owner

A can of worms will always be a can of worms! That sounds very suspicious to me that the owner parked it up just because of a quite easy to change clutch slave cylinder. When you go and look at it, try to give it a very thorough inspection of the underside looking for the ravages of the dreaded tin ...

Re: MGF Tyres

Surely, unless we are doing 10/10'ths track days absolute ultimate grip isn't the be all and end all situation for the vast majority of us? My 2001 1.8F is equipped with Avon ZZ3's all round and it handles like an absolute dream, mind you, I am only using 'Madge' for sunny dry days out on the genera...

Rattling Wind Stop?

My 2001 'F' is fitted with a perspex wind stopper and although it does an excellent job of stopping the back wash of wind, boy oh boy it certainly makes its presence known by rattling on anything other than a billiard smooth road. I have put a bit of insulation tape along the bottom so as to make it...

Re: Hello from Dorset

I have just recently bought 'Madge' my 'F' and boy oh boy do I love it. From my experience don't simply go on the external bodywork. I looked at quite a few which had truly excellent external bodywork and yet they were basket cases underneath! If possible try and get the car put up in the air so tha...

Re: How to adjust engine lid?

check the engine access grill pegs are located in their holes, i found on my trophy two were not located all the way in and this was enough to stop the boot from closing flush,as soon as i bent the pegs to fit, the boot closed in line with the wing. Sorry to say but nope, everything is OK in that d...

Re: How to adjust engine lid?

Do the hinges run smoothly or are they a bit stiff or even squeaky? If that’s the case, the hinges will actually keep the lid open slightly. Does it improve when you (carefully) press down the lid at the hinge end? Just fitted a TF bootlid on my MK1, are you sure the hinges are in the lowest positi...

How to adjust engine lid?

The boot lid / engine lid on my otherwise almost totally immaculate is noticeably higher than the wings when it is closed and has very obviously been like this from new as the mounting/attachment bolts have never been touched. I loosened all 4 of the attachment bolts only to discover that the lid is...

Re: Which MG club is best

This is just my two pennyworth, Buzzy-Beans. Why bother with fully comprehensive insurance when there isn't a single MGF/TF on the road that is worth (as far as an insurance assessor is concerned) much more than two bob and a blackie's egg? That is exactly why when insuring my old Renault Master LW...

Re: Which MG club is best

Hi. My insurer insisted that I was a member of an MG club, so they signed me up with the MGOC automatically in order to get my insurance. However, I really like this forum and I see that it is affiliated to the MGCC. Why are there two (or more?) MG clubs? It's very confusing. Should I stop being a ...
