Re: non starter engine seized mabe??

Broken cambelt, bent valve (and ?) cracked liner. The valve most likely is stuck between the top and the piston. Have a borescope? otherwise buy, about Pounds 10 on ebay! You can connect to the computer and look through the spark spark plug hole and see into each cylinder. I guess that is your probl...

Re: Suspension collapse one side only

They will collapse on one side only, because the front and rear suspension is linked on each side. So, a drop means that you have lost the fluid in the one side. That can be the result of a torn diaphragm on the front, but most likely on the rear sphere , OR a leak in the pipe work between the two. ...

Re: OMG what's this all about

If you want a good sealant, try Victor Reinz, Rinzosil. It is a grey silicone type sealant with fantastic adhesive and resistance. I have used it on many occasions, and it is brilliant. Resists oil, petrol and water, and quite honestly, I have never come across any equal or better sealer, not even L...

Re: Hydragas reconditioners - just add nitrogen!

My one rear sphere has just let go. The lower diaphragm has burst, leaking fluid. So it lasted only a short time, but the gas side is intact. Just goes to show. Get it done before the sphere gets so low the lower diaphragm gets damaged. So now a wait for a new unit from Europe, might get the paint w...

Re: Hydragas reconditioners - just add nitrogen!

An interesting option but whilst MS claims that they can be fitted in situ it would be far better to do this job on a bench. The physical action of drilling the holes necessary, whether welded or using an insert is likely to introduce swarf into the nitrogen egg, which will have to be completely re...

Re: Hydragas reconditioners - just add nitrogen!

No, you are right, a damper and a shock absorber is the same thing. The nitrogen chamber and the fluid chamber are two units combined in the "sphere". But apart from that, there is a conventional shock absorber or damper, if you will, at each wheel. That is the one (or the ones) I think you refer to...

Re: Hydragas reconditioners - just add nitrogen!

The gas in the hydragas is the "spring", the fluid in the spheres provide some damping, and the shock absorbers do the rest of the dampening.

Re: Hydragas reconditioners - just add nitrogen!

I did my own, and I would highly recommend me!! :D But seriously, if your rubber diaphragms are still in good order, it will transform your car. I doubt anyone can really remember how well a new car did drive, but it will be miles better than your overfilled, over pumped and springless current car. ...

Re: MGF VVC suspension

Thankyou once again for all of your help. I have contacted the hydragas and hydrolastic service centre which fortunately is only 2 hours drive from me. I look forward to getting the job done. Incidentally, if I decide to get all four spheres out of the car and send them away for refurbishment - sur...

Re: MGF VVC suspension

As another experience... My 2000 vvc was at 340 when I bought it. Got Hydragas pumped up and the ride was instantly transformed back to loveliness. But it took a higher pressure than stock to get it up to 368mm which has me a bit worried lowering pins might already be fitted and I can't suss out ho...

Re: MGF VVC suspension

What you, correctly, call alcohol - is what most people would call ethylene glycol, or green antifreeze. So for the man in the street, the mixture for refilling your liquid side is indeed 50% water and 50% green antifreeze. Most, if not all, antifreezes will have built in corrosion inhibitors, usual...

Nope, that's not it!
Exactly the same, 6000 revs and it hits a wall!
My 30 ponies are still AWOL!

Re: VVC not working correctly. Any tests?

Went through the system this morning and measure all components, to see if anything is way out. Nothing showed up in particular. What I did notice was two wires not attached to the cam shaft sensor. Broken off, very close to the connector, yet the wire sat in the right position, I guess out of habit...

Re: MGF VVC suspension

The alcohol is the green antifreeze! So it is a mixture of that and water. Originally there was a tiny amount of a third component added, I forget which. https://www.clinicaladvisor.com/critical-care-medicine/ethanol-methanol-ethylene-glycol-ethyl-alcohol-etoh-alcohol-spirits-ethylene-glycol-eg-anti...

Re: MGF VVC suspension

On an old car like that, the nitrogen part of the sphere has lost the nitrogen. The system works by having the top of the spheres filled with high pressure Nitrogen, and the lower side filled with mixture of antifreeze and water (50/50) Pumping the liquid side (as opposed to the gas side) will achie...

VVC not working correctly. Any tests?

So my VVC system in my newly acquired car does not work. I seem to run out of revs at about 6000 rpm, but otherwise most is OK. If I accelerate hard, it occasionally gives a jerk, as if it runs out of spark for a split second, but only occasionally. In order to see if the plugs on the inlet manifold...

Re: Changing coolant pipes

Just out of interest. I replaced the original two pipes with two straight pieces of SS 32 mm in diameter. 50 mm shorter each end (so you get two pieces out of a 3 meter pipe), but running straight and in parallel. So no need for any special shape! Used normal good quality hose clamps, and the hoses ...

NEW MG F

Just a quick hi to all. I have acquired an old MG F 2002, Freestyle VVC, with sunken suspension and a non starting engine. The engine turned out to have been wrongly timed on the cam belt, no damage and it starts. Some wires from the ECU have been cut, and a pick up and toothed gear fitted on the pu...
