Re: Hello from West Wiltshire
Welcome to the fold. I note like me you have a TF and a Midget, I'm near Radstock so probably quite close.

Re: New member hello from Somerset
Welcome. I also live in Somerset and also have a BGT I have partially stripped and am currently welding so I can get it on the road this summer. Would be good to meet up if we're reasonably close - I'm just south of Radstock.

Gearbox oil seal replacement
At the last MOT I noticed the beginnings of an oil leak from the offside gearbox seal ( my MOT tester is old school and is happy for me to wander around under the car whilst it is on the hoist). I put the car up on ramps yesterday and it has got worse - I had to add 800ml of oil to the gearbox. So t...

Re: Petrol Fumes
When you check the top of the pump take the plug out and check it's dry - I had a leak and it was a around one of the electrical pins in the pump body which had overheated and was loose and letting fuel out. Solved by removing the pump, inverting it and potting the pis with Araldite.

Re: front hub bearing
I'm in the 'fit original' camp on items like this, having just changed all 4 due to a similar advisory and deciding that at 100k miles the car deserved it. If doing it yourself then I recommend reading Roger Parker's book "MGF and TF restoration manual " where he describes how to do it without needi...

Re: Is DAB any good in the TF?
I fitted one of the DAB aerial converters from Dab On Wheels to the standard aerial and it works really well, car is a daily driver and I travel around the South West quite a bit and the signal rarely drops out.

Re: Making it easier to remove the engine cover
I've replaced the bolts with s/s button Allen socket screws from toolstation- easier to engage and drive with my electric drill, and won't rust. £3.22 for 50.

Re: Strange Rotational Noise TF 120 Stepspeed
I had a similar noise on a front wheel, had an advisory on the rear wheel bearings although none of them had any noticeable play but the rears sounded very slightly rough when spun. I decided to change all of them as I decided that at over 100,000 miles it was probably a good idea, and the noise at ...

Re: Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
To summarise what I've learnt, if your alternator isn't charging and your ignition light isn't coming on, these are the steps: 1. check the 40A fuse on the bulkhead 2. Check fuse 25 3. Disconnect plug from alternator and with ignition 'on' ground the brown and yellow wire in the plug, if the light...

Re: Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
Nigel thanks for the offer, regulator arrived from MG Mania today, fitted to Alternator, all back together and working fine, ignition light coming on with ignition and going out when running, battery charging.

Re: Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
So, tested the ignition warning light by turning the ignition on, no warning light, earthed the brown and yellow wire on the alternator plug and it came on, so all OK at that end. Also checked the 40A fuse on the alternator feed which is also OK. So pretty sure the problem is the alternator regulato...

Re: Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
Battery charged, alternator taken off and inspected, no obvious damage etc. Alternator back on, connector sprayed with switch cleaner, all back together, additional earth run from battery to Alternator body using a set of jump leads, car started, 11.5v at battery, 11.5v between alternator feed termi...

Re: Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
So, checked battery warning lamp, appears ok, continuity through it. Next check the voltage again with the engine running and only getting 11.55v with engine running and revving it. Alternator off, anyone know any checks i can make?

Re: Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
Battery is fairly new ( and a replacement from ECP for a duff battery). So, battery charged sufficiently to get all lamps illuminated and start the car. However, with ignition ON the battery warning lamp isn't illuminated, so next stage us to check the lamp. Also, with engine running only 11.26v acr...

Alternator fail - no battery warning light?
I've been using the TF a lot recently without any problems until today. Last week on the way home the battery charging light came on. Pulled over to check the alternator belt was OK, left the engine running, and when I got back into the car the light had gone out. Used the car over the weekend for...

Re: MGF Sill Drain Holes - where are they
Stirrers from Starbucks are ideal for clearing the drains - right size and won't damage the paint. There is also a grommet in the front wheel arch which you can see into the cill through if you want a good look.

Re: Engine Management Light
Mine's been coming on periodically for 2 years, with no noticeable effect on performance, and goes off after 5 cycles. Usually when I get stuck in traffic, so assume its something to do with mixture. Ive also tried checking with an OBD reader, once I had the same reading - no.2 misfire- but I've nev...

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Made an additional webbing pocket to go in the boot to supplement the MG one I bought recently 20210130_174115.jpg ( no idea why the photo is on its side!) Also fitting mudflaps at the front to try and protect the fronts of the sills which are stripped of paint by the salt and grit on the roads at t...
