Re: soft top window

My rear plastic window was really bad and I thought I would have to change it but I thought I would just try PlastX first and it worked really well. My first attempt with it made a bit of an improvement, but not all that much. A couple of weeks later I had another go and saw further improvements, an...

Re: Rear Window zip

Hi,

Just a thought. It may help if you release the front catches on the roof to give you a bit more play (like you were going to put the hood down). The roof might be very tight in the cold weather.

Re: Got my first mgf

Cool!!! I'd say be sure to bleed the brakes if it has stood and grease the nipples on the suspension - and check the suspension height. May need pumping up. I'm told the cam belt and waterpump needs changing every four years regardless of mileage. I'd be very wary of anyone telling you it has been d...

Oh ok - I'm not trying to get into a massive argument about price but I do think these guys offer a good service (nor am I suggesting they are the only people who do)

Head gasket - don't despair

ARGGGGHHHHH.... The dreaded head gasket failure yesterday. Heap um plenty mayo on the dipstick. Went to bed last night feeling very depressed. I woke up this morning wondering what to do. Now I suppose this depends on your outlook on life. Do you see the header tank as half full or half empty...

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?

Fitted a new radio. There has been a bit of talk about what adaptor you need to fit a radio but thankfully the Pioneer I got from Argos fitted straight into my 1996 MGF. It was a Pioneer DEH -S100UBA for about £50 from Argos. It was a really easy job but always disconnect the battery before you do t...

Re: Clutch change question. 1996 MGF

Just had clutch fixed at garage. Woe to you oh earth and sea....OMG!!! If it could go wrong it did!!! These are guys I have known for years and trust. The car spent nearly 4 days on the ramps as everything seized and with parts supplied I was handed a bill of over a grand for labour and additional p...

Re: Clutch change question. 1996 MGF

Many thanks for your answers. The OEM clutch kit seems to be £120 and I am hearing good things about the AP Clutch kit from specialist centre so I think I'll go for the AP (unless anyone knows of any great deals elsewhere). Both kits include bearings. Thanks!!! I think the slave cylinder is a good c...

Clutch change question. 1996 MGF

Hi, I've got a 1996 MGF with 90,000 miles on it needing a new clutch. This is not a job I will be doing myself. It seems advisable a really good idea to fit an uprated clutch release arm at the same time. Given the amount of hassle and labour costs of changing the clutch is there anything else that ...

Re: Won't start in the damp

All valid comments.
Had these problems. Solved with new HT leads, a new distributor cap and rotor arm and I think very importantly new spark plugs set to the lowest possible setting of 0.8

I have had no problems since.

Re: Brakes that have little or no feel......... dead?

I realise this is an old thread but I think MGF brakes are actually pretty good. If anyone thinks their brakes might need attention then trust me they do. With respect five years is way too long to go between changing brake fluid. Personally I think 3 years is as long as I would want to leave it as ...

Re: How much for a spray refresh?

If you are considering either full or partial respray I would chat to AD Panelcraft of Milton Keynes. Top quality finish, very good prices, and excellent at bodywork. I wouldn't consider using anybody else. They are that good it is worth travelling to Milton Keynes for. The price will obviously depe...

Re: Buying a cheap MGF?

Salt on British roads is a great thing - just a shame car manufacturers don't do more rust proofing AND yes it was a truly excellent repair by AD panelcraft of Milton Keynes. I would love to have the rest of the car resprayed.

Buying a cheap MGF?

In 2018 I bought a cheap MGF with a full MOT off ebay for £700. Bargain or so I thought. I knew the car wasn't perfect but it had a waterpump and cam belt just a few thousand miles ago. On the second day steam came out the back and I thought it was the head gasket. Thankfully it was only a hose. An ...
