Robbo,
I think that the spheres are ok (surface rust) as it has been standing for months with no loss of height on the suspension, get your point though, the subframe will get a makeover along with all the others bits (renew or refurb if necessary)

Re: MGF 75th Anniversary Head Gasket Failure.
Managed to unweld the subframe mounts (both side) 😂 and now have the subframe and the offending engine out. Think I will strip this engine down and rebuild, if the head is not damaged 🤷🏻♂️ I managed to get the wheel off but had to drill and then burn what was left of the locking nut. The wheel will...

MGF 75th Anniversary Head Gasket Failure.
Hi Guys, I have not posted for sometime. Some of you may recall that I bought a reasonably cheap 75th anniversary with a head gasket problem. Not only that an oil leak quite severely. Therefore, I have a spare good engine that I was going to use for a K Series Midget, so decided to use the spare one...

Re: 1998 MGF (MPI) engine swap to 1999 VVC( Hi to all in the register forum) Yojic
Hi Guys, Have not posted for a while as been busy with the Midget and a health problem. However, has anyone come across a shattered rear hydrogas unit on an MGF. Reason I found out was that the suspension was going down after a week or so. Therefore, had a spare and replaced with subframe in situ, t...

Re: No power to start
Thanks Geoff, Tried to jump start the car and my boy connected to the wrong terminals 🤪 . Transported the mgf to its new home. Left the battery on charge all night, nothing. Bought a new battery, fitted it, checked all fuses and she started first time, it has been laid up for 18 months. My mistake i...

Re: No power to start
The Rev limit is 7,250 so it looks like a vvc but on the plenium there is no vvc letters on it, not like my mk1 vvc, will check if it has belt covers at both ends in the morning. It’s a revvy engine as I tested it on a country road (long straight) and goes past the red line in third!

Re: No power to start
Well just as well I did not rely on replies😂 All sorted now, just changed the battery, checked the fuses, turned it over and she fired up straight away 👍🏻 What a result! Had a good look round it today, minor work to be done other than a bit of rust around the offside front and rear wheel arches, the...

No power to start
Hi Guys, Bought a cheap 2001 MGF, the V5 says it’s a 1.8i VVC, upon collecting the car the battery was flat( been in garage for 18 months ). Tried to start with a charged up battery, turns over but did not start or fire. Therefore, used jump leads but my Son put the leads on the wrong terminals :oop...

Re: 1998 MGF (MPI) engine swap to 1999 VVC( Hi to all in the register forum) Yojic
Thanks Rob, just to let you know, the rolling shell was delivered today with an unleaded 1275 engine :thumbsu: also pleasant surprise is that the V5 states it is an historic vehicle, think that means Tax & MOT exempt. Although, when rebuilt, I will put it through an MOT, for the buyers piece of mind...

Re: 1998 MGF (MPI) engine swap to 1999 VVC( Hi to all in the register forum) Yojic
Hi Guys, The MGF passed the MOT after a couple of issues, the brake pipe repair was leaking and the nut was bottoming out, so had to re do with a longer one (did not have at the time  ). The rear engine mount to sub frame fell off during the MOT  just as well there! As you know, I bought ...

Hi GH, Cleaning the interior, took the seats out washed them with water and fairy liquid, after drying used a leather cleaner ( cannot remember the name as I borrowed it, any good leather cleaner would do). Carpets, I used a soft brass wire brush and good old henry the hoover. For the dash and door ...

Re: 1998 MGF (MPI) engine swap to 1999 VVC( Hi to all in the register forum) Yojic
Hi Guys, Well gave the MG a bit of a spruce up, for a 21 year old car it has come out not too bad. Just a bit of adjustment on the hydrogas suspension, sort the underside piping out then ready for the MOT. Here are a few photos. 33588D21-42C8-4186-9B30-CB4822A92D02.jpeg 831C2471-06EC-42B6-B7F8-89AB5...

Re: 1998 MGF (MPI) engine swap to 1999 VVC( Hi to all in the register forum) Yojic
Hi Guys, Do you know where I cam purchase some new underbody pipe clips for brake and Hydrogas suspension pipes. Tried the usual Rimmers etc. No joy there. I don't want any show stoppers for the MOT. So think the pipe work needs tidying up a bit and be more secure. Any Ideas for alternatives? Here i...

Thanks Rob, Don't know about rebuilding two Midgets, if the chassis is too bad on the RHD one I may convert the LHD to RHD as the chassis is solid, we will see when I get back from work in about 10 days. Yes, great feeling when the MGF was finished, fired up first time with the key and the road test...

Re: where to get Hydragas pumped up ????
Well Guys, the pump worked a treat and did the job. Although one side looked as if was on stilts when all four tyres were on the ground, let some of the pressure out, now all about 365mm from centre of wheel to the bottom of the wheel arches. No issues with the units, so all four are good. HP hand p...

All most there, resprayed the bumper and the hard top but had a bit of an issue with the lacquer on the final coat. Afeter a day or so compounded and the DA got a bit hot on the hard top ridge and took some of the lacquer off it,too much pressure in one place  Learnt the hard way. But will use...
