Re: Leather seats wanted

Hello James, sorry for delayed reply. Attached picture shows what I am after, darkish green and black leather. These were recently on Ebay, but I think they have now been sold. They need to be correct equipment for a 2001 MGF and in good condition, especially drivers side bolster.

Re: A new thought on overheating

Hi nigelandjo. I can't immediately identify a vent hole in the filler cap. Can you post a picture showing exact location?

Hi Bigfootmgf. Do you know why your head gasket went at 80,000?

Re: A new thought on overheating

I have two MGFs, both 20 years old, both have had the head gasket replaced. My belief is that in both cases the head gasket blew because of overheating. Neither of these cars overheat now - and I think that is because I have made sure that I have a flow of air into the fuel tank in both. Some guys I...

Re: A new thought on overheating

The answer is so simple it is going to really annoy people - some of whom have spent years and lots of money trying to solve this problem. REMOVE THE (GREEN) INNER SEAL INSIDE THE PETROL FILLER CAP. Although the cap feels a little loose after this, it still locks - and removing this seal allows air ...

A new thought on overheating

I have noticed that as my fuel gets used up a vacuum builds up in the tank, there is often a swish of air being sucked in when I open the filler cap. I have also noticed that my 2001 MGF tends to overheat after a long, fast run when I am sitting in much slower moving traffic. It does not overheat af...

Fitting MGF REAR mudflaps

Does anyone know if there is a fitting kit for REAR mudflaps on an MGF? I seem to be able to buy FRONT fitting kits, but not REAR ones for some reason. Does anyone know if the fitting kits are actually the same, and all I really need is two FRONT kits?

MG TF Workshop Manual

I have an MG TF Workshop Manual. Used but in near perfect condition, no staining. The Part No. is RCL 0493(2)ENG BB. Which incorporates RCL 0057ENG & RCL 0124 and RCL 0495(2)ENG. I want the equivalent Workshop Manual for my MG F - which was first registered March 29th 2001. Anyone got one and want t...

Re: Alternator change over year?

I am now wondering if I have in fact fitted the right alternator. A bit more research tells me that YLE102430 comes in three types.
85amp/12volt
85amp/14volt
110amp/12volt
Does anyone know what was the original equipment on an MGF first registered on 29th March 2001?

Re: Difficulty selecting reverse gear.

Drained gearbox and refilled with 75W90 - plus fitted selector cable kit. Goes into reverse easily now, but I will follow your instructions - neutral - lift clutch - clutch down - into reverse. Taking it fairly slowly - this will probably extend the life of the cable repair. I understand that there ...

Payen head gasket

Have just discovered that my 2001 MGF had a new head gasket and bolts fitted at 59,000 miles. A 'Payen' gasket was used. Car has now covered well over 80,000 and all is good. Can I expect this gasket to last at least 50,000 miles?

Re: Difficulty selecting reverse gear.

Bought a selector cable repair kit from mg-obsession-2013 described as 'Genuine MG Rover Kit' - fitted the gearbox end (both attachments at the gear lever end seem OK) and can now select reverse with no problem at all.

Re: Alternator change over year?

I have three alternators, one on the car, one needing reconditioning and one with a rusted and seized bolt. Both the one needing reconditioning and the one on the car seem to be threaded to take an M6 bolt. The only way to remove the seized bolt will be to drill it out, it is broken off inside the h...

Re: Difficulty selecting reverse gear.

Hi John SS. Yes, I have changed the gearbox oil, it did result in a slight improvement. But I think the problem with reverse is the longer of the two selector cables, gone bad at the gearbox end. I understand there are repair kits available. Anyone know which kit is best?

Difficulty selecting reverse gear.

It is difficult to engage reverse gear on my 2001 MGF. I'm aware that there is no synchromesh on reverse and that this difficulty is well-known to MGF owners - but mine often baulks me five or six times before engaging. Would renewing one (or both) gear selector cables go a long way towards helping?...

I reckon it is wear on the lft gear, although now it is working it is a bit slow. Not entirely sure why that is.

Re: Electric Window Mystery

If anything my problem was worse. The passenger window was stuck in the DOWN position, wouldn't go up, just twitched when the switch was pressed. Particularly awkward because it was beginning to rain. I cut two 10cm X 10cm pieces of 3mm plywood, slotted them down about 5cm each side of the glass in ...
