Re: Engine Management Light
Regarding the locking issue. It’s a strange one. The problem certainly seems to point to the locking mechanism and not the alarm or central locking. Got the door card off. Plastic door cover has already been pulled back in that area. So not a good sign that potentially someone has already been in th...

Re: MG TF Central Locking
Yes tried the key in the driver door but the button won’t budge. Ironically the passenger side button does go down when the key is used? Do you think the issue points towards the driver door lock mechanism? Yes I’ve been in touch with Paul and he thinks it’s the driver’s door lock because everything...

Re: MG TF Central Locking
Just to carry on the thread... But also as an aside the lights no longer flash when the alarm is armed. I know the alarm is armed because it sounds when I open the drivers door and the red light on the dash flashes as it should. It’s all a little bit strange! At the moment I cannot lock the car by a...

Re: MG TF Central Locking
Thanks for your advice everyone! As I said the odd thing is that the car won’t remote lock but the alarm sets. When I press the open button the door buttons move slightly and the alarm disarms. So all very odd to say the least!

Re: Engine Management Light
I now have a new issue. These problems with MGTF’s seem to come out of the blue! Car won’t lock remotely but the alarm arms itself. If I press the unlock button on my fob the door buttons raise slightly which seems to suggest that the locking buttons/pins are working properly? Any ideas anyone!?? Ch...

Car back and just in time for the sunny weather although I’ve kept the hardtop on as it’s very chilly in the mornings! Now running like a dream. £348 all in and less than the quote so I’m happy..

Re: Engine Management Light
Thanks very much for taking the time to write. I really want the car back on the road ASAP so might have to bite the bullet on the £400 due to my own time constraints! Thanks again for your valuable advice. Cheers, James

Re: Engine Management Light
Thanks again. Just as an update, I’ve booked the car in at a local garage as my nearest MG specialist (Brown and Gammons in Hitchen, Hertfordshire) couldn’t do the job for 2 weeks. Looks like changing an alternator on a MGTF is not the easiest being a mid engined car so I’m leaving it to my local fr...

Re: Engine Management Light
Update. Home safe with the help of a friendly recovery driver. But I think you were right. Battery now completely flat so it is definitely pointing towards the charging system (alternator). I suppose the low charge in the battery makes the electrical system go haywire! Many thanks, James

Re: Engine Management Light
Thanks. It’s funny though. The car will run and start but then the dash lights up like a Christmas tree! Battery still fully charged.. it’s mysterious.. maybe needs a new alternator as you say.. but will a fault reader tell me much about it? Now on recovery truck! Cheers for your help. James

Warning lights on!
Anyone help? Just broken down roadside with RAC on the way! Weird though. Firstly the battery warning light came on (Red Steady On), then the ABS warning and then SRS and then the little steering wheel warning light in red! Then the car just stopped and everything went dead! Any ideas anyone? Had a ...

Re: Engine Management Light
Thanks again for your great help and advice Mark. Much appreciated! I suppose I’ll have to keep on using the key but hate the risk of scratching the paintwork! Cheers, James

Boot release mechanism
Can anyone help with my remote boot release? Actually the question is does my car in face have it!? There is a button on my key fob and some sort of cables running to the lock but I don’t know if they are significant? Any help/advice would be much appreciated! Cheers, James PS Engine management ligh...

Thanks for your advice Mark. I’m not particularly OCD about fault codes but that orange glowing light on the dash really
irritates me!

Re: Engine Management Light
Hi Mark, thanks again for taking the time to write back. I had a brand new Cat fitted at Trophy Cars in January as the original was badly corroded and there was a blow between the Cat and the back box joint. I do suspect that one of the codes could be related to that however the car seems to drive a...

Re: Engine Management Light
Hi Mark, thank you so much for your answer. The booklet that came with the OBD2 actually described the same issue with those codes. Should I be worried about it? The car was serviced in August 2020 before I bought it from Trophy Cars and including a cam belt change and is due it’s next service and M...
