Re: StepSpeed
Another suggestion on maintenance: Check that the top swivels on the front suspension have BOTH been greased. This is often overlooked by previous owners and Garages are unfamiliar with this 1950-1960's era "Technology" The F inherited this feature front & Back from the Metro, which in turn inherite...

That make sense to me, too, (not that my opinion should count for much!)Chris Tideswell wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 8:57 amIt does sound very much like the ECU coolant temperature sensor.
In case you are not sure which sensor is the one the ECU is looking at, this picture might help:
Re: StepSpeed
I was going to make EXACTLY the same comments as Kasper and nigelandjo AKA Nigel May, but they both beat me to the draw. Particularly agree that there is no point/no need to replace head gasket unless you have a GOOD reason to be SURE that it is failing. As regards tyres, I changed my 10-year-old ty...

Re: TF stiff gearchange
Notanumber's reply is advice well worth following, but IMO, there are 4 possible reasons for a stiff gearchange: 1. Dirt entering the gear linkages and swivels near the gearbox. The gaiters on mine had failed (see first picture) and the swivel joints had black, filthy grease/dirt mix. Gear LinkageGa...

Re: How many MGF's are left?
There is an article in the Daily Fail today about future classics. The MGF makes it onto the list and they claim there are only 23 left in the country registered and on the road with 54 SORN's Anyone know if this figure is accurate? It seems very low. The Daily Fail has done it's usual stunt of gen...

Re: Advice Needed
I have not done this job myself, but plenty of others have. It is generally a reasonably easy job ONCE YOU HAVE REMOVED THE MOUNTING BOLTS! These bolts have a reputation for at least one of the set shearing off, leaving a stubborn, rusted stump in the threaded hole. I am assuming that the mounting y...

You mentioned: "My son's wife drew up a plan with mesurements showing how many MGF's would fit in the garden." That definitely earns her a special mention in your will! Something like "XXX inherits my entire MG collection of cars and spare parts"!

Re: Unknown Engine Temp
The only "Safe" answer I can give is: Sorry, not sure. What will be more helpful to you is the suggestion of searching this site by entering something like "Temperature Sensors" into the search box (Top Right of the opening page when you are on this Forum). I did that and a lot of useful information...

Re: Unknown Engine Temp
I remember reading somewhere that there are TWO engine temp sensors, one for the gauge, and another for the ECU for engine mixture management & control of cooling fan(s). A picture of a K series out of the car is attached: Coolant and Oiltemp&Pressure Sensor Locations.png I seem to remember that...

Re: Misshapen Hard top
My first thoughts are: 1. It was probably solar heating of the air in the shed + perhaps direct solar heating of that part of the hardtop which allowed distortion like that. 2. Some localised (effectively "upwards" in your picture) loading of that corner must have been present to "Drive" the distort...

Thanks, I intend to. Was it this kit? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305053857329 Have you ever tested by deliberately removing some coolant. Thanks. Yes, that WAS the kit I used. The guy I purchased it from gave helpful advice (initially via Ebay's "Contact the Seller" system, as I recall.) I chose to...

Thanks folks, car now purchased. It's an early one, chassis number under 2000, supplied Feb 1996. I'm the third owner and it's done 42k. I will get the engine cover off at the weekend and have a look. I'm using it for an Autosolo at Goodwood a week Sunday so it would be nice to have a working tempe...

O.K. & Thanks for accommodating my aversion to travelling any more of the A303 on a Saturday than I HAVE to! I will be in the lay-by at 10:25 latest and look out for a Yellow Trophy and I will do my best to slip into a gap smartly. Best to avoid leaving a large gap when we meet the A30 (just along t...

A30-A303 Junction-Layby.png I would like to join you in the convoy to Wiscombe Hill, and have purchased my ticket using the clubpackagemg code. I presume you will be using the A303/A30 route from Ilminster. If so, could I join where the A30 from Chard joins the A303. There is a convenient layby. An...

It was part of the "drive by" regulations. I presume you are talking about the cover for the large hole and the brake operating torsion tube + screenwash bottle. I removed this to do a flush of the screenwash, and took pictures. My 2002 TF does NOT have a snorkel, so there is a fastener hole in the plastic heater cover: UnderFrontBonnetNoPla...

Re: Car Valuation
If you are a member of MGCC or MGOC,I think they do valuations and will advertise your car in their magazine. Value is all about condition, so the more photos and description of work done, service history, number of owners, mileage etc. you can provide, the more accurate the valuation. I think Class...

mgtf160p4lcw You mentioned: "so I depress the clutch down and coast for a time, say sometimes 5 seconds to 10, and the gearstick frees up for me to choose the next gear I need, say up or down, All gears are free when engine is turned off" That seems to indicate that either the gear selector shaft, O...

I believe that the wheel nuts on our cars has the same seat angle and thread as those used on Fords, so aftermarket solid items are readily available on the bay of fleas and elsewhere :) If you're flash and rich enough, it ought to be possible to get them in titanium too if you're chasing the weigh...
