Are you certain it's the starter itself and not a dodgy starter contact in the ignition switch ?

You haven't put what car you have but if you do have to replace the starter I think the Mk1 F may have a different starter to the Mk2 F & TF from memory.

If yours doesn't yet have one I would recommend fitting a brake servo brace. The brace prevents the bulkhead flexing when pushing on.the pedal increasing efficiency and reducing pedal effort. An inexpensive and popular upgrade

Brembo or Mintex pads are both good mid priced pads for the F & TF but others will be along with their recommendations. Does yours have the standard single pot floating front calipers or the 4 pot AP calipers by the way ?

Removing the negative clamp from the battery always isolates it quite well, does not require additional hardware and is quick to recomnect.
