Re: Horn Not Working - Help
Slip ring ? If you mean the clocksping then this contains multiple internal helical wires, some of which may break over time. Now on manual Fs and TFs it is practical to swap to an unused pair of wires as some of the clockspring wires are spare as they are only ever used for the gear shift buttons o...

Re: Starting Query
Its probably worth ringing around the usual places most of us on here use for 2nd hand bits to find an affordable replacement starter. I tend to use Darren at Mgfntfbitz due to good experiences but others will be along with their own recommendations .

Re: Starting Query
Are you certain it's the starter itself and not a dodgy starter contact in the ignition switch ?
You haven't put what car you have but if you do have to replace the starter I think the Mk1 F may have a different starter to the Mk2 F & TF from memory.

Re: StepSpeed
Good advice, so many people and garage arent aware those grease nipples exist on the TF front suspension - plus they are usually so caked in road dirt you'd never spot them unless looking for them. I would add one MUST; a coolant level sensor if you dont already have one. Low coolant level is now th...

This has come up a few times over the years. It's worth using the Search feature on this forum and also checking the How Tos on the other.

Re: Imported a classic car
A very nice car the Singer Gazelle convertible. I had a 1962 Sunbeam Rapier which was basically a badge engineered variant of the Gazelle, sharing the basic structure and running gear with marginally different styling. Wished I had kept it. I guess theres nothing stopping you buying an MGF in the UK...

Re: Brake Pad recommendations please
I found that. It was quite a physical struggle to get the brace lined up enough to bolt in place due to the bulkhead having stretched around the servo over time. Whilst fitting mine I took the step of using a bit of aluminium bar along the back of the snorkel intake to hold it down more evenly as i ...

Re: Brake Pad recommendations please
If yours doesn't yet have one I would recommend fitting a brake servo brace. The brace prevents the bulkhead flexing when pushing on.the pedal increasing efficiency and reducing pedal effort. An inexpensive and popular upgrade

Re: Brake Pad recommendations please
Brembo or Mintex pads are both good mid priced pads for the F & TF but others will be along with their recommendations. Does yours have the standard single pot floating front calipers or the 4 pot AP calipers by the way ?

If you think you may have an airlock in the coolant, which is quite possible given the distances involved on our cars, it could be useful to use a vacuum coolant filler; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394615474117?itmmeta=01HVV2AB1BNBTG4Z1DW5KE6K7F&hash=item5be0ea47c5:g:-moAAOSwF0NkWhhl&itmprp=enc%3AAQA...

If you do nee rear calipers 'Bitz have a sale on new ones for £ 85 a side but you could probably find tested 2nd hand ones for a fair bit less.

Re: MGF Trophy 160 Clock Query
I bought a spare YFB100420 in case i ever needed it for my TF and just compared it to the clock in my 1979 MGB. They dont look immediately similar, on the face of it (pardon the pun). Aside from the clock face difference the casings are a different material and style, the connections and the bezel a...

Re: MGF offroad for 3 years will not start
I would recommend taking it to one of the established MGF mobile mechanics that several people on the forum have used. The trouble with generic local garages who don't have specific experience is that they can only take a poke and hope approach, replacing anything they think of until it is hopefully...

Removing the negative clamp from the battery always isolates it quite well, does not require additional hardware and is quick to recomnect.

Interesting. I.never knew a 1.4 cylinder head would have the same sized vales and have the same compression

Re: MGF offroad for 3 years will not start
I mentioned the starter on my Tf is a bit lazy to Darren at 'Bitz whilst I was inquiring about a new T bar cover. He greatly surprised me by selling me a tested starter motor for £ 10 plus shipping. I will swap it over in the summer when i do my cambelt. Apparently the starters on Fs and TFs are qui...
