Re: Mechanic needed MG TF North Devon
If it doesn't; google 'MGF mobile mechanic' and you will have access to somebody (several personnel options and links to articles confirming their excellent previous services) who knows these engines inside out and can give you the correct answer/solution quickly. Whereas fishing for a possible mech...

Re: WANTED - Original MGF CD player
I think you are looking for the Blaupunkt CD43. You might be able to find one from a similar aged BMW and add the small MG lettering for authenticity.

Re: Battery charge light on while driving?
I found they didn't remove the paint when fitting the earth strap on all of mine, so the contact point to the body was only the thickness of the metal in the bolt hole or spot welds on the captive nut (the threads vulnerable to corrosion over time). Removing the paint under a new crinkle washer is a...

Re: Battery charge light on while driving?
What voltage are you getting at the battery with engine off, engine on without light on and on with light on?

Re: Looking at purchasing a MGF
About £100 for the parts. If you pay someone else to do it, choose one of the mobile MGF specialist mechanics to come to you and do the job. It is only around £350 all in unless there is extra damage such as a warped cylinder head, stretched head bolts or bent valves. You also pretty much get a comp...

Re: Alarm issues after flat battery
Good result James. Sticky throttle should be easy to check but probably means a new cable which is a bit more involved; but doable.

Re: Alarm issues after flat battery
Interesting but I only have experience of Fs so for my tupennyworth: Can the car be started and driven normally? What happens if you lock the car with the key? Do you have a multimeter, what is the (recovered) battery resting voltage? Does the alternator charge normally? If the operation of the lock...

Re: Rear brake line replacement tips please
Hi Nigel, Challenging but rewarding! I have replaced two OSR brake pipes with the tools you list so it is very doable with nothing more. The NSR run looks to be easier and is obviously shorter, but I don't know if you need to lose the air box as I haven't had to do NSR...yet! You definitely need to ...

Re: Ignition key won't turn
Sorry to hear of this issue and from the lack of response it sounds like nobody else has heard of this problem before either. It sounds like the steering lock has broken, in which case they can be replaced relatively easily and F lock sets are available on ebay. I imagine the car is currently safe i...

Re: Coolant Gauge
This sounds more likely to be a sender issue and because of the difficulty of accessing the thermostat with consequent system bleeding, I would start by replacing the sender. They are cheap and more easily accessed without the need for bleeding. You don't need to throw the old one away unless the pr...

Re: Temperature gauge not working - diagnosis
Early ones were blue, later ones black, but buy one from a reputable site and replace the blue or black one as found.
I doubt the pump access panel seal is the problem but good luck.

Re: Temperature gauge not working - diagnosis
The oil temperature seldom gets anywhere near the middle of the range unless you are really thrashing it - such as a very enthusiastic track day - so nothing to fix there. The water temp gauge should sit a notch under half way under all circumstances once warmed - your sender unit is the most likely...

Hi Mike, I have had regassed spheres on one for 7 years and even older units on the other for 5 years. The previous units on both cars were OK but low on nitrogen pressure so that the spring element was almost non existent. You should be able to hold each corner (of the car) down and have it spring ...

Re: Coolant alarm kit fitted
I would let it have a few cooling and heating cycles to establish the level before undertaking anything possibly unnecessary - the levels tend to settle after disturbance. The radiator cap is lower than the coolant reservoir so some water should have come out but no air should have got in up front.

Lots of service history, tahiti blue paint and bodywork very good for age, good condition leather and wood veneer interior, good hood with glass screen. Clear headlights, recent discs and pads, tyres have loads of tread, has just had the cambelt service - w'pump, tensioner, fluids - using MGR parts ...

Re: Door Locked Closed
Welcome aboard JAGMG, do you know any history of when the locks worked properly? 2.93v sounds a bit on the low side - should be around 3.2v for a brand new 2032. Also you can give them more than 4 presses to resynchronise the immobiliser after a battery change and it is best to try one at a time. Yo...
