Re: Rear diffuser?

To a road car, perhaps not. To a competition car like the Shed, then yes... ;) The VX is already a track focused lightweight performance car and it's still debatable if the 'Fuzzer gives any benefit, so to a much slower and heavier MGF/TF I would think it'll be next to useless. Worth noting as well...

Re: Rear diffuser?

Pointless and ugly!.... Unless you do lots of very high speed track work then these diffusers are little more than cosmetic. Interestingly, I owned a VX220 and lots of owners fitted aftermarket diffusers, the most popular was a brand called 'TAT' which pretty much sums it up for me!. Would you reall...

Re: What is it worth. (1997 MGF with only 5000 miles)

Presumably this is the same car you asked about on .org a few months ago?..... General opinion then was circa £2K tops - dont see anything to change this now. As Rob says, MGF's are in pretty much banger status now so even very clean low mile examples don't fetch that much above the norm, they just ...

Re: Legal Advice Required Re: MOT's! (Dodgy!!!)

Anyway, I picked the car up and drove it home telling them they would get a cheque for the work next week. Once I got home I decided to check to see if the brake light that I know wasn't working had miraculously started working again; Nope, still out. Also there was ZERO screen wash in the car eith...

Re: Is the MG6 truly an MG?

Hot on the heels of 'what will become of the MGFs', I'd be interested to know what makes an MG an MG? With the new-to-arrive MG6 and may be its smaller cousin soon is the design and engineering British or Chinese? We all love the MGFs and TFs because we know they are built a British thorougbred, bu...

Re: Where now for the MGF?

On paper you would have to say that the odds point towards obscurity, particularly with issues like Hydragas suspension spheres and the dreaded HGF, still to be resolved. Please debate.... MGB's had bodywork that rotted in a time scale that could be measured in hours - not years, yet you can now bu...

Re: Gearbox life expectancy opinions needed

After completing some considerable research into these gearboxes, I have discovered that they are commonly regarded as a poor gearbox that is prone to failure, Any reputable automatic gearbox specialist will also confirm to you. It's VERY rare to hear of problems with the Manual PG1 gearbox thats f...

Re: PROBLEMS WITH F ALARM AGAIN!!

Most common 'false' alarm problems are either.... 1:Interior Volumetric sensor 2:Boot loom hinge wiring 3: Door lock microswitches If you say you've checked 1&2 then 3 is the next place to start. There is a microswitch which is part of the door lock solonoids, water/damp can enter these causing corr...

Re: Sericing A 99 VVC

Hi, could one of you helpfull people just remind me of the oil change interval? I don't have the owners manual or service book. I've only covered 5-6 k miles in the past two years. i bought on condition and a test drive being an engineer, instead of stamps in a service book, which doesn't really te...

Re: Buying advice please

The rotten TF I mentioned above Rob, was a 53 plate XPG with around 75K on the clock..... Front edge of subframes and Lower suspender arms seem very prone to tin worm, my old TF was only 3.5 years old when this was taken.... http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f123/J7MGX/MGTF018.jpg Coolant pipes, as ...

Re: Buying advice please

That's frightening! :o How can people think to sell cars in that condition? And how on earth can a TF be rotten already? Must be severe neglect... Fortunately, there are plenty of cars out there - and they're not all bad... Crumbs, I am beginning to think that Project Shed - as found - wasn't in ba...

Re: Buying advice please

but the key here is the general impression: Beware scruffy cars, and particularly scruffy cars tarted up to within an inch of their lives to justify an excessive asking price... Interestingly, I've just spent the last couple of months looking for a TF for a freind and it's frankly shocking the stat...

Re: Buying advice please

Not much to add to Mark's comments, although I would argue that panel fit from the factory is actually always been pretty satisfactory - and if it isn't good, then it does suggest previous repair work. You must have been pretty lucky then, Rob... When you've looked at as many F/TF's as I have down ...

Re: Buying advice please

1 small amount of rust behind the vertical seam beneath the door is this normal? 2 Wet carpets (underneath). The soft top looked reasonable and I think the car has been standing for a while. Explanation was that car was valeted however, it had smell of a longer term issue. Do they all leak a little...

Re: Poor little F written off!

For about the insurance payout you could get this.. http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=366870 a newer - better spec'd car that ticks nearly all the box's you want in a S/H MGF.

Complete no brainer IMHO....

Re: Poor little F written off!

There is also a strong argument for "better the devil you know" - the settlement from the insurers is only likely to stretch to a like-for-like replacement if Emma buys privately, and an 11 year old MGF with no comeback from the seller is an unpredictable prospect. Where damage is major, i.e. bodys...

Re: Briliant Polishes - any good?

Have a look on here - if it's any good these people will know http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/index.php From the looks it seems a pretty standard compound/polish and a LSP type wax, I imagine it will contain lots of fillers like AG Super Resin Polish as it can be VERY difficult to 'remove' swi...
