Re: She is alive and well

Thanks for the tips I shall follow up and report back. My local garage were put off because everything was very rusty and I think they were concerned the job would escalate in to something bigger.

Re: She is alive and well

MoT was not too bad, but it needs a new pair of front wishbones. My local garage has declined to do it. Anyone know of an MG specialist in the Northwest?

Re: She is alive and well

Blast from the past.

Well on a similar vein, I manged to start mine at the weekend after nearly 18 months SORN. I think I will give her a wash and get the garage to do an MOT and give her a visual once over. I'm expecting a bit of list to fix. But you have to start some where!

Re: TF Tyres

Just a quick update replacing the old fronts with a pair of Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun has transformed the old girl. A lot less twitchy both at high speeds and in the corners.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Fuel pump not clicking

Yea a braided one at that! Better during the test than on the open road.

Still got a bit of work to do as it feels twitchy and a bit nervous. But I'll enjoy getting used to it again - and working out why it feels different to how I remember.

Re: Fuel pump not clicking

Woo hoo, Not with standing a wheel bearing (which I knew about) and a brake pipe that burst during the test - its passed it MoT. Just in time for the decent weather. :thumbsu:

Given its not been used for 6 years - I wonder what will break next :o

Re: Fuel pump not clicking

Just for completeness it was the fuel pump. Fitted a replacement and now she's running. :thumbsu: The old one had corroded - moisture in the old fuel I guess. Hi Rob - blast from the past. Shame about Tech Speed. Just need to the Mot failures sorted and she'll be back on the road in no time. Beep Be...

Re: Fuel pump not clicking

I'm near Chester - why? I could do with a recommendation of an MG specialist in this area. I've always used Tech-Speed Motorsport in Eathorpe, in the past (when I lived down south).

Re: Fuel pump not clicking

I've got 10.4v on the purple and white wire when cranking the engine. So is it a slam dunk that the pump is stuffed? :o

Re: Fuel pump not clicking

Thanks but that was the 2nd thing I checked after 'did I have any petrol in the tank?'. I've also checked No.2 fuse. I wonder if the pump is just stuffed? I think the next thing to check is to take a volt meter to the top of the pump. See if there is 12v when the ignition is turned on?

Fuel pump not clicking

Hi, Don't know if anybody remembers me but I used to be active on the MGF scene several years ago. Well I've just pulled the F out of the garage and tried to start her. It got fuel and the alarm has deactivated but I'm not hearing that old clicking sound from the fuel pump. Any tricks to get it goin...

Re: Mixing Toyo's and F1s

As a follow-up I now have the Toyo's fitted. Will report back on handeling.

With regard to tyre wear the Goodyear F1s have a wear rating of 200 and the Toyos have a rating of 280. So they should last longer (all things being equal - which of course they never are :) ).

Cheers

Re: Mixing Toyo's and F1s

The Toyo's are only £54.50 vs. £ 70.80 for the F1 GS-D2. So it looks like I'm buying the Toyos. Is there realy any difference in wear rate between the two? :?

Tyre pressure?
Ride height?
Tyre tread depth?
Suspension and /or tie bar bushes?

Mixing Toyo's and F1s

I am very aware of the F's picky nature with respect to tyre choice. My understand of the basic principles is that it is always best to have more rear grip than front. For many years now I have run F1 GS-D2 on 16" rims. But now my rears (215/40/R16) are on the way out but my fronts (195/45/R16) stil...

Hydragas pump

I'm sure that I recently spotted that someone local to Chester had a hydragas pump. My F has dropped a bit 305mm at the front and could really do with a pump up.

I'm happy to meet up and do it DIY :)

Cheers

Re: clear out

I could do with a hand full of wheel nuts and possibly the 304s depending on the state. I'm just out side of tarpolely so not very far.
