Just to clarify the union sizes, I meant spanner size for the unions, not the thread size.

Re: Rear brake line replacement tips please
Many thanks for all the tips. I finally got the new flex pipes today and finished off the job. Here are my key learnings for my 2001 MGf. The unions on the tee were 11mm and the ones connected to the flex hose are 10mm. As pointed out by Rob in the link above, the flares on the pipes differ at each ...

Re: Rear brake line replacement tips please
Hi Charless, Many thanks for the reply. I’ve removed the engine cover and it looks like the OSR may be the easier of the two. It does seem there is an advantage to removing the air filter box to give alternative access to the tee piece if the NSR wheel arch access is restricted. Hopefully I will hav...

Rear brake line replacement tips please
My 2001 MGf has MOT advisories for corroded rear brake lines. This looks like a real challenging job due to poor access. I would welcome any tips on the best way to do this in a diy home garage environment. I have access to a set of ramps, axle stands, brake flair tool, brake pipe spanner’s etc. It ...

sphere removal. which direction?
I need to remove my offside spheres due to one of them having an internal leak. Having read Rob's very detailed article on Dieters MG website its not clear if the rear sphere is removed via the engine bay or through the wheel arch. Has anyone done a sphere removal without removing the rear subframe ...

i may be able to help as i have access to a Churchill pump. I will need to check it over to see if it still has the vacuum function working though. i am located near Fairford so not too far North of you. What timeline are you working towards and do you have fluid?

Re: K series rebuild
Surely if the original engine used the 26mm belt with the two extra teeth then that is what should go back on else the cams will quickly go out of sync as the crank rotates. If that happens then you can expect a very rapid bang as the valves go through the pistons. Or am i missing something like pro...

Re: VVC Bearing removal
This may help. https://wiki.seloc.org/a/VVC_Information#VVC_Mechanisms_Strip_down However, i fear you may have already gone too far if you have not marked the position of each part as it was removed, including the orientation of the blocks. I had tappet noises that made mine sound like a diesel and ...

Re: Mk1 MGF EPAS Fault - No Power Steering - how to fault find?
i think you need to focus on stabilizing the speedo as that is the signal that feeds the EPAS. Check the speedo drive at the gearbox ( access to this is a challenge) and then at the joints on its way to the speedo. RPM signal comes from MEMs ecu and i dont think is linked in any way to EPAS. Nigel

Re: Timing belt change intervals plus what else
Last year my son bought a 2003 Tf with 35k miles on the clock. It had been purchased by the person we bought it from with HG failure. He instructed the local garage to keep the cost of HG repair to a minimum as he intended to pass the car on as soon as it was done. They refitted the original timing ...

Re: Door glass adjustment instructions
I have never understand that instruction either and i need to adjust the passenger window on my son's TF.
It would be great if someone who has done the window adjustment could give us a better direction on this particular part of the window adjustment.

Re: Hydragas reconditioners - just add nitrogen!
Ok, I put my hand up as guilty of calling the damper the shock absorber, which is what i think most of us would call it, but my point was that whilst overhauling the suspension it might be worth replacing the rest of the tuned system to include the damper and its rubber bushes especially if they are...

Re: Hydragas reconditioners - just add nitrogen!
How about replacing all four shock absorbers at the same time as getting the re-gas to put the suspension system back to 'As good as new' status?

Re: Mgfs breaking i have 4
i am after a decent drivers side carpet, one without holes or significant wear plus a drivers side original factory fit front mudflap with fittings. If you only want to sell the mudflaps as a pair then that would be ok if the price was right.

Preventing bonnet cable problems?
My MGF bonnet cable release requires much more force on the lever than the other two 'fs in our family and i would like to see if some preventative maintenance can be done to avoid a future problem. Are there any known areas where the cable can get pinched and tighten up or is it just a case of grea...

Re: Immobiliser trouble
Are you sure you have the right EKA code? I seem to recall that early MGF's had the code one digit out on the second and fourth numbers. Try adding 1 to both of these and try the EKA method again.

One option you guys might like to consider is meeting at the Motor Hub on Sunday morning this weekend. The Hub is a meeting point for people interested in classic cars and is located on the old WWII airfield at Ablington near Bibury. The airfield is on the back road between Ablington/Bibury and Nort...
