Some advice on selling my MGF please!
After 6 years of fun motoring, the time has sadly come to sell my MGF. I have finally caved in to the need to buy something more practical to fit the kids and my model R/C planes and equipment in. I looked on Autotrader and Gumtree to get some idea on prices and two things surprised me, firstly the ...

Mystery object
This was handed to me yesterday at work, a nice friendly person found it under my car (1996 VVC), does anyone know what it is or what it's fallen off?? The car runs without a problem (so far!!).
The longer section is about 2 inches and the shorter sections are about an inch.

Re: Help, I'm leaking....
I got hold of some tubing and things are looking good. We had absolutely torrential rain for hours at the weekend and there was the tiniest drip in the car, not enough to even run down the door. Generally though it is now dry even after long periods of heavy rain.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Help, I'm leaking....
My MGF has been dry for the first two years of ownership but has now sprung a leak. Water is coming in the passanger door at the top of the wing mirror. I'm guessing it's a problem with the rubber seal which runs up the side of the windscreen but it looks the same on the other side and there are no ...

Re: HGF and re-sell value
Whether to be honest or not? Not that difficult a decision surely? It’s not a question of honesty, I was referring to whether or not it was a good thing to advertise. If someone actually came to see the car I would be happy to show them all receipts and detail all the work that has been done. I was...

HGF and re-sell value
My MGF exploded in a cloud of steam and oil a few months ago. It is now repaired with an upgraded head gasket kit, new bolts etc and I'm told it will now "never fail again". I have full receipts from a reputable dealer showing all the new parts. I am now considering selling the car, is the HGF somet...

Water level indicator
I’m currently waiting for my F to come back after (surprise, surprise) the head gasket failed. It seems it was caused by a hose splitting, water pours out, engine overheats and the rest is history. At the time I was sitting at the side of the road covered in steam though the water temperature gauge ...

Re: replace rear window
Just my experience but I was very impressed with BAS. Rang them up and spoke to someone who seemed to know the products and the right screen turned up the next day. Can't ask for more than that.... except perhaps sending someone to fit it

Re: Jokes for Friday
Many more along the same lines.... So Batman came up to me & he hit me over the head with a vase & he went T'PAU! I said "Don't you mean KAPOW?? He said "No, I've got china in my hand." You invented Tipp Ex, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm so lazy I've got a smoke alarm with a snooze button. I bought s...

Re: replace rear window
On a window related theme now I have my new rear window in place:
I've read in a few places that before folding the roof down you ought to unzip the window and put it flat. This is recommended by Rover/MG. Now, whilst that does make sense, does anyone actually do it??

Re: replace rear window
I replaced my rear window at the weekend. I got a plastic one from BAS for £110 including VAT and p&p. It took about 50 minutes to remove the original and rivet the new one in. We were very pleased with ourselves except when we went to shut the roof it wouldn't shut. About an hour later and we'd got...

Re: Doh! Rear zip out screen
Thanks for the replies. In my panic I didn't spot the previous post on the same subject. I've now got a replacement on order but in the meantime I've stuck it all back together with clear waterproof tape and it seems to be holding (which is a good job as the car lives outside).....

Doh! Rear zip out screen
In a spontaneous act of grand stupidity I thought it looked like a nice bright day to have the roof down. Result: One splintered rear window. Lesson learned: Don't fold the roof down when it's below freezing..... I have two questions… 1. Does anyone have any recommendations for a new zip out rear sc...

Thanks for the replies and links, I like the talcum powder idea. I'll pull the carpets out this weekend and have a good look around.

Soggy passenger carpet...
I'm sure I've read about this before but I searched and couldn't find it. I've just noticed that my passenger footwell carpet is damp and starting to grow mold..... I'm 99% certain the roof doesn't leak, all the seals are fairly new and there's no indication on the door, seat etc that it is dripping...

Re: Hydragas Ride Height
Thanks for all the advice, I've found somewhere that will pump it up this weekend. Given that it's freezing cold at the moment what height would you get a 98 F set to? I don't want it to look like a Land Rover come the warmer weather. (Suspension is bog standard and I don't have the cash at the mome...

Re: Hydragas Ride Height
I visited the technical forum to ask a question about ride height and saw this thread... I bought my '98 F VVC about six months ago and have always thought it was too low. It looks great but is hitting the ground all the time. I can only get over speed bumps at an absolute crawl. When I arrive at wo...

Cambelt change
I need to get the cambelt changed on my '98 VVC. I bought the car in June, it's done 42,000 miles but I can find no record of if / when it was last changed. I'm lucky as normally my brother does all my mechanical work but he's too busy in the lead up to Christmas so I'm going to have to go to a gara...
