Re: TF Tyres

The MG Motor Technical Bulletin above warns against mixing different makes of tyres front and rear. Also make sure you run the correct tyre pressures as per the handbook. I case anyone reading this has 15in wheels and is wondering if this applies to them, cars on 15in wheels seem to be much more tol...

Re: TF Tyres

As I understand it, that is what MG Motor did to arrive at the recommendations in the Technical Bulletin. They didn't just try a couple of types of tyre from Falken and a Toyo. Interestingly, my MG6 tramlines badly when the tyres are close to needing replacement, and sometimes can get stuck on the w...

Re: TF Tyres

Hi Johnny You have probably realised from the size of this thread (and there are others on this forum) that TF tyres are a bit of a problem! MG Motor issued a strongly worded Technical Bulletin in 2014 which I have added below to save you looking for it in this thread. MG Motor Tyre Bulletin June 20...

There is a shorter version of the same topic in the February issue of Safety Fast. It's on page 10.

Re: TF Tyres

There is a good article in the March issue of MG Enthusiast (page 72) written by Roger Parker of the MGOC relating to Toyo Proxes T1R tyres made in Malaysia, as these have been causing instability problems at speeds over 45 mph. Apparently the manufacture of these tyres was slightly changed to compl...

Re: TF Tyres

As far as I know, it is highly unusual for a manufacturer to issue a techical bulletin worded as strongly as this. Has anyone explored the insurance aspect of not using the Goodyear GSD2 (THE only recommended tyre - even though you can't get them any more!) or the alternative Falken or Toyo? If you...

Re: slight coolant loss and poor starting.

Thank you to everyone who has helped with this thread, and it is reassuring to know that dementia amnesia hasn't set in yet, as I didn't remember removing a plug from (what I now know to be) the AIT sensor. Yesterday afternoon we had a fabulous run in the now rejuvenated TF through the Derbyshire da...

Re: slight coolant loss and poor starting.

I've currently got the engine cover off again (Clutch slave cylinder failure and possibly master cylinder as well) and I've had a good look around the engine bay for a plug that would fit the inlet temperature sensor. Can't find a loose plug anywhere! There are several sub looms around the clutch en...

Re: slight coolant loss and poor starting.

Yes changing the gasket has resolved the poor starting issue. It now starts from cold promptly and immediately settles into a smooth idle at around 900rpm. The coolant level has stayed constant - a bit worrying as it is currently over filled. I let some out of the system via the radiator bleed when ...

Re: slight coolant loss and poor starting.

I've resolved the 2 questions posed above. The other end of the pipe from the cam cover terminates under the s shaped pipe connected between plenum and a sensor. The plug was trapped under the plenum, which I had to remove this morning to retrieve it.

Re: slight coolant loss and poor starting.

The good news is the inlet manifold to head gasket looked decidedly dodgy on the right hand side (viewed from the back of the car, but around No.1 inlet port). The gasket around ports 2, 3 and 4 looked ok with a nice red line around each port, but No.1 had 90% red and about 10% brown leading to the ...

Re: slight coolant loss and poor starting.

Thanks for the replies so far, I'll change the inlet manifold gaskets and hopefully that might reveal the problem. I take it the 160 VVC and the 135 gaskets are the same? None of the suppliers seem to list these as the correct gaskets for a 135 TF! Looking at the picture above, it would appear that ...

Re: slight coolant loss and poor starting.

Yes I'll change the gasket myself. I understand there are 2 gaskets to change for alloy inlet, one between the head and the manifild and another between the inlet manifold and the plenum as splitting it makes access easier. I've seen lots of 'o'ring type gaskets for sale for the plastic inlet manifo...

slight coolant loss and poor starting.

Forgive me if this is duplicating other threads, but I seem to have a combination of problems which is spoiling the fun! I have a 2002 TF 135, which has covered just over 65,000 miles. The head gasket along with coolant pipes were replaced in 2008 before I bought the car. I suspect the original stee...

Re: Amber engine warning light comes on after refuel.

The car performs the same whether the light is on or off as far as I can tell. There is no sign of misfire or hestitancy all through the rev range. The light will illuminate soon (within a couple of starts) after adding fuel that takes the fuel level to around 3/4 full, or more, on the fuel gauge, a...

Amber engine warning light comes on after refuel.

Hi all, hope someone can help! I bought a 2002 TF 12 months ago with about 47k miles on the clock. At the first refuel (to about 3/4 full) the amber engine warning light came on steady. This was reported to the suppling garage but when they connect their fault reader, there were no fault codes logge...
