Re: Will using higher RON or Super Unleaded fuel help my car?

Several sites mention that the K-series (and auxiliaries) isn't suited to use E10, so at least in Belgium you'd better fill up with the more expensive RON98. I'm sorry but that's just wrong. The RON is a marker of the level of Detonation resistance of the fuel. If E10 is RON 95 then it's perfectly ...

Re: Wheel nut torque

Fasteners are held in place by stretch in the fastener which locks the threads together. In an ideal world you would be able to measure the elongation of the fastener (indeed this is what I do with the big end bolts on my Race Engines). However many fasteners (including wheel studs / nuts) are 'blin...

Re: Tracking: degrees vs. mm or inches

My tracking gauge picks up on the wheel rim both ahead of the axle line as well as behind the axle line so I would say it's the diameter that is important rather than the radius.

Re: Tracking: degrees vs. mm or inches

Tracking is based upon the wheel rim not the tyre.

Re: Weller Formula Ford on an F?

Psst Rob: 3 3/4inches.

Wildcat, the PCD is the same as the Small Chassis Triumphs, ie Herald, Vitesse, Sptfire, GT6 as well as the small saloons such as the 1300FWD, 1500RWD, Toledo and Dolomite, and the TR7/8.

Earlier TRs and the Large Saloons have 4 inch PCD.

Re: F -v- TF bootlid ?

The Kamm Tail on the TF bootlid (along with the revised side intakes) contributes to a 40% greater airflow through the engine bay with a comcommitant decrease in engine bay temperature of some 17 degrees compared to the F.

In my view its one of the best mods you can make to an F.

Re: which head gasket to use????

If you don't have the requisite liner stand-proud you cannot use a MLS gasket.

Re: which head gasket to use????

The N Series gasket is the one to use, as long as you have the required liner stand-proud.

Re: Reinforced rear shock mounts...Where from?

A few of us would argue the F set up will give better handling than the TF set up (not to do with spheres vs coil overs but to do with geometry) You'd be wrong then I'm afraid. Both the Trophy and the stock F retain the compliant rear wheel steer on the limit (to assist the muppet driver from loosi...

Re: Track Days

In my experience (as a Racing Instructor), the majority of people doing Track Days for the first time will run out of talent long before the car does even in stock form. I would suggest that throwing money at mods is a waste of time until you have the ability to use them. Thus the way to go (initial...

Re: Shocker bolt

I had a couple of suspension bolt failures as a direct result of this shoddy bloody design! Both on the nearside rear, both showing classic signs of high cycle fatigue. I now run Pro-Tech dampers that were bespoke manufactured. These have a shouldered bush that presses into either side of the rose j...

Re: Won't start, rapid clicking...

The 'shotgun' clicking you can hear is the starter solenoid. This indicates that there is no longer enough grunt in your battery to turn the starter motor over. I'd charge the battery off car over night and see what happens. It may be that your battery is old and will no longer hold charge - I've ju...

Re: changing oil rail without breaking hg seal

There is often some fluctuation in the level of the coolant in the expansion tank. It can be more exaggerated, particularly if there is trapped air somewhere (air expands more than fluid when hot). But if the mean coolant height remains unchanged, then there isn't a problem. I agree. However, if th...
