Re: MGF offroad for 3 years will not start
Check if the alternator is stuck. The stator corrodes when stored in not completely dry conditions and eventually locks the rotor. The smoke may come from the alternator belt rubbing on the pulley that does not rotate.

Re: Spigot bush
The hole is 22 mm, the input shaft 19 mm. If a bush belongs here it would be 1.5 mm. There is no sign of wear marks in the hole so it may be that there is no need for it.

Spigot bush
Should there be a spigot bush in this hole in the flywheel end of the crankshaft?

You can charge your battery from the engine compartment. 12V live at the starter terminal.

Re: Fuel tank removal
Fill some hot water into it. Plug all holes and let it cool. This will make it shrink. Repeat if necessary.

Re: Pscan tuning features: How do the "Trim 2" buttons work?
Rob, After some playing with the Trim 2-buttons with an O2-analyzer connected I think they indeed work only in open loop. The CO values are not affected in closed loop. Leaning out the mixture by three steps gives a noticable poorer acceleration. Two steps more ignition advance and one step more ric...

Re: Pscan tuning features: How do the "Trim 2" buttons work?
Rob, this is the "Tuning features" page I am referring to.
I do not know how my CO is at present because my Gunson analyzer is not able to read the value exactly. But on the last MOT the tester had to make a fast run down the road to heat the cathalyst in order to make it pass.

Pscan tuning features: How do the "Trim 2" buttons work?
Do the "Trim 2" buttons work in closed loop mode? Can they be used to tune exhaust CO content to pass MOT?

Solved. Engine won't start. Can't read ECU.
My '96 MGF won't start. When trying to read the engine ECU from the pscan I get the message "Init fail". I have tried with my test ECU which has the starter inhibitor circuit disabled but I get the same message. Disabling the SCU with the EKA code makes no difference. I get readings from the SCU and...

Re: Running rich
When I plugged in an ECU from a 1.4 liter engine, the system worked OK. The oxygen sensor voltage fluctuated between 0.1 an 0.8 as it should and the CO dropped to 0.1%. With this ECU the engine ran lean but it made the car pass MOT. We also tried another MGF ECU but the result was the same: Oxygen s...
