MGFIM 2021 Sweden postponed

The odd tradition has been evened out! We cannot longer keep the 2021 date for next MGFIM. Sadly, due to the Coronavirus crisis, like many events MGFIM has to be postponed a year as well. But: we will still go up North to Sweden! mgfim22.jpg The event has been moved to the Ascension weekend a year l...

Re: Incorect shocks?

Whilst investigating, have a look at the top damper mounts at the rear. When incorrect shocks are used (resistance on compression), these tend to break/split and may need reworking or welding.

Re: MG TF Engine Mounting

Yes, the whole mount can be removed. I've not done this with the engine in situ, but I am told it is possible. :) It indeed can be done, but it’s a massive pita, to be honest. My good friend Markus once sheared off one of the mounting bolts on my car (yes indeed, the 14mm bolt!) and so I told him t...

Re: cambelt tensioner vvc trophy

My advice would be to leave the pillar bolt in place, but secured with some thread lock. It’s a pig to remove and worse to refit come the next service. The spring on the other hand should be taken off. I keep that in the “special tools” drawer. You wouldn't want that one go awol inside the cam belt ...

Re: MGF inlet manifold swap to alloy from 135

According to the parts list, just two different kinds of valve springs were used on the MGF/TF:

LGL10008 - for all MPi engines, 1.6 and 1.8 alike, no difference between 120 and 135 bhp
LGL100460 - for all VVC engines (145 and 160 bhp)

22nd July dinner for run-up to MGF25

Hi South East folks, as it was such a fab tour five years ago, I’m planning to do another road run to Gaydon for the German cars coming to MGF 25. If all goes to plan (some people still have to apply for holiday leave), we will be bringing ten cars over to the UK. Arriving on Wednesday, 22nd of July...

Re: MGF CVT fuel injectors

The 6 bolt is for Euro 3 exhausts, which use a different location for the lambda sensor (in the flexi pipe, not the manifold). Also, you will need a different kind of heat shield.

Re: MGF CVT fuel injectors

When I swapped the plastic manifold for an alloy one on my Steppy I reused the original black ones. They are fine up to 120 bhp, and everything was fine under driving. The only issue I encountered was an occasional erratic idle when stopping at traffic lights after a short period on overrun, the eng...

Re: MGF MK1 and 2 Centre Console Fascias

Hi Andrew, it’s a relatively easy job, just some minor trimming work to the dashboard mouldings and a Mk2 heater control fascia w/ knobs are required. Bear in mind that you have to retain the Mk1 window lift switches, as the internal wiring is different between Mk1 and Mk2.The rest of the switches a...

Re: ULEZ compliance

Found some more values, and those for the later (Pektron equipped) TFs have been checked against the records in various V5 documents I have: MGF-TF emissions v2.jpg Next I checked various cars I know on the TfL website. It appears that Euro2 VVCs are eligible to enter the ULEZ without charge, while ...

Re: ULEZ compliance

Interesting stuff, as we are practically in the same boat over here in the West of Germany, too! Various local authorities in NRW had created exclusion zones for petrol cars rated Euro2 and older, some of them including motorways as well. For the time being, this is off the table now, but you never ...

If those items are all original I would strongly advise checking any record/replacing anyway the cam belt and it's tensioner. The K series is an interference engine! The cambelt has a designed life of 5 years, not 25!
Wasn’t that 4 years and 11 months, as proven by your experience, Charles? 8-)
