Re: LED Compatible Flasher Relay

I didn't want to go the resistor route because if the LED bulb were to fail while out on a drive and the small town's only hardware store won't have another LED bulb, but they might have the original filament bulb, or I am carrying a spare. But the original filament won't work correctly anymore due ...

That's what I have done, but didn't sacrifice the original flasher relay.

Re: Brand of air conditioning pump

The same compressor, JPB000060, was used on the F and the TF until the end of production. The later SAIC TF compressor that is available from Rimmer will fit the earlier TF and F's compressor mounting points.

LED Compatible Flasher Relay

Presently, the turn signals in my '95 F are extremely dim and when the sun shines on the rear light you can't even seen the turn signal flashing. I've clean connections but it has made no difference. The ambler LED lights are very bright but flash very quickly. I bought LED amble bulbs and a LED com...

Re: Brand of air conditioning pump

The original a/c compressor, JPB000060, used on the MGF and TF was manufactured by Seiko-Seiki, model VS96DV1, type SS144FV1. The SAIC TF spec compressor presently available from Rimmer is not compatible with the early cars, the pipe connections are different, but it will mount in place of the JPB00...

Re: Can anyone recommend a reliable outdoor cover?

Hi Dwight, Where are you located in the US? I'm in Canada, about an hour away from Detroit. I can't recommend a full cover, mine live in the garage, but if you are looking for something that protects the hood and glass, to keep rain out, I can highly recommend Sunmate cover made by Mike Satur, we ha...

Re: teaching a learner - manual

I remember teaching my step-son on my BGT. His first time behind the wheel, he let the clutch out without hesitation. I said to him: "analog, not digital." He looked at me and I explained that he was so use to playing video games where you are either on or off, whereas the clutch must be gradual, fe...

Interestingly, here in Canada, I have seen 3 MGFs installed with this MGF accessory, all cars were German-export cars.

Re: gear cable abutment clip - LOST

Mike's bell crank assembly still requires the use of the clips. One one of our Fs when we bought I found that the clip was missing from one gear cable and in its place was a length of copper wire in the cable end's groove and a jubilee clip holding the wire in place. The copper wire was of suitable ...

Re: Battery went flat while driving - what's the problem?

One thought Rob. With the car running, if you do not find alternator voltage at the battery, yet alternator voltage at the alternator, it may be that the fusible link has given up the ghost. This had me scratching my head for the longest time until I looked at the wiring diagrams on Dieter's website.

Re: Breaking the mold...

You can use IPA... Not sure if I would try to use India Pale Ale on mould. I used bleach to remove the mould from my F when I first got it, it was everywhere inside of the car, and it effectively eliminated the mould issue. I did dilute the bleach about about 10:1, but then our household bleach has...

Re: Smoke INSIDE the MK1 mgf

RobboMC is right, the connection between the heater pipes and hoses 25 & 26 can only be accessed by removing the heater pipes, which means stripping out a lot of the interior. The heater pipes come up past and clear the centre vents. At this point you now have to removed hoses 25 & 26 from the heate...

Re: Smoke INSIDE the MK1 mgf

Hi, Mark here (aka mowog73) in Canada, eh, Interesting that this is the 4th or 5th person I have heard of in the past couple of months that has had leaks of the pipes and/or hoses associated with the heater. When I replaced the heater pipes in my wife's F a couple months ago, I found the ends of the...

Re: MGF coolant hose - what's this part?

I have started a project similar to Robbo. I've replaced most of the original coolant hoses on our two 1995 MGFs, but the hoses going to/from the heater were still original, 27+ year old hoses, so I am presently in the process of replacing those 5 hoses on both cars, as well as the heater pipe.

Re: heat hose engine bay connection hoses

The two hoses that pass through the fire wall are not shown in the workshop manual, only on Rimmer's website. And they are sort of shown incorrectly in terms of the hoses that they connect to from the engine, so take note of which connects to which engine hose in terms of inlet and outlet. The heate...

Re: heat hose engine bay connection hoses

I've just finished replacing all 5 hoses that are associated with the heater on my wife's MGF and will soon be doing the same job on my MGF. The two hoses at the engine bay end can only be replaced by removing the heater pipe first, which requires removing most of the interior in order to get to the...

Re: hand brake adjustment

Drum brakes make so much more sense at the back of a car; they provide braking force and the parking brake mechanism is simple and effective.

The parking brake mechanism had seized on my F, so I rebuilt the calipers and now they work great.

Re: Stainless Coolant pipes

Ahh so much from a single word, awful. I was referring mostly to the wresting match I generally have in removing such OEM clamps, not to the sealing or leakage; but you raise an important point. I will certainly agree with you there. The locally available specialty hose clamp plies are of fair qual...
