Re: Missfire / Running on 3 Cylinders
All sorted, nipped in to see Mike Arens at Bridge Garage in Evesham - a Star if ever there is one. He inserted his magic fault reading device and told me it was a No2 Cylinder misfire. Almost certainly a coil pack. 30 mins later new packs in, and new plugs sourced from my local motor factor and she ...

Re: Missfire / Running on 3 Cylinders
I replaced the leads and cleaned/ re gapped my spare (nearly new plugs) and re assembled. On start up all seemed well, so mucht that I put the lid back on whilst the engine warmed through. She seemed to idle fine and at the right speed but sadly on gunning the engine it still is running rough. It se...

Re: Missfire / Running on 3 Cylinders
I got the engine cover off this morning and started fiddling... It seems it might well be a lead/cap issue, really surprised to find the No1 cyl connector at the plug end black with corrosion, the coil end however was still fresh brass. The plugs, which were new NGK 12 months ( 5000 miles) ago seeme...

Re: Missfire / Running on 3 Cylinders
Hi Rob, its an x plate 2001. I was thinking of getting the top off and pulling off spark plug leads until I isolated which cylinder and take it from there. I was wondering if damp had got into a connector and blown something up?

Missfire / Running on 3 Cylinders
Since starting my own business from home my F has been parked outside. She hasn't been used much over the last 3 months but has always been fine until this weekend. Last Tuesday I went to move her and the battery was flat as I had inadvertently left the radio on; jump started her and left her runnin...

Re: HGF ? Dilema
Hi,
I changed the rad for an alloy core in the spring - the old one was just about held together by paint!! This may well be it - I will give it another flush with some cleaning chemical and see if that helps.

Re: HGF ? Dilema
New hose fitted and given her a thrashing - coolant level seems steady. Despite flushing water still seemed less than crystal so popped in a dishwasher tab and ran her for 30 odd miles, dumped coolant and flushed with a hose. Reassembled and bled - coolant clear till operating temp then a bit turgid...

Re: HGF ? Dilema
Thats beginning to sound like a plan. When the new top hose comes I will fit that and then give her a bit of a thrash and see what goes!
Its just that Ive got the time to get stuck in at the moment, I wont in a months time.......

Re: HGF ? Dilema
Even more uncertain now ! Bled through, let her warm thru till fan cut in - no issues. Went to B&Q , several miles an a bit of dual carriageway - no problems. When cool - no loss of coolant at all. I will fit the new 'top hose' when it arrives and see what happens then, I dont want to push it at the...

Re: HGF ? Dilema
I didnt bleed the coolant rail, but yes - rear raised. Will be having another go in the morning and ordering the new hose I need. I will have a couple of days before the bits arrive to redecorate the Dining room then if I cant prove its not the HG I will rip it apart anyway! Just didnt want to waste...

Re: HGF ? Dilema
Well, Ive bodged a repair to the top hose by cutting the end off and pulling the hose a bit! re oiled and watered and started up, bled through a good bit then let her warm up. got her to a steady temp ( 1 notch under 1/2 way), after some revs I got the front fan to kick in, oil temp about `100C. No ...

Re: HGF ? Dilema
Ah Ah Mr Rat - I am paranoid. When the exhaust seemed 'steamy' to me it was after a good half an hour zipping around the lanes so oil temp was at least 100 and the water temp was bang on 1 notch under 1/2. I will certainly try the hose first, though I do see the head as a challenge - I could do with...

Re: HGF ? Dilema
That was about what I was beginning to think, thanks for that.
a couple of other bits of info that might be relevant though.
She has been performing very well, no issues at all.
Temp gauge never moved from its normal spot .
Exhaus seemed a bit smokey though ??

HGF ? Dilema
As you will see from a previous post last week my head gasket blew, or did it :? Ordered up the bits from Sussex MG but as they are out of tensioner bolts I cant get it till mid next week, so thought I would start some preliminary stripping. Got the hard top off and removed the engine cover and saw ...

Re: Will a leaky HG blow pipes?
It certainly can, but I think you would experience other symtoms as well. If there is no 'Mayo' in the header tank I would guess that the system just need bleeding properly - which takes time but is well worth the effort.
try it - if that doesnt work then it may be HGF.

Re: Head Gasket Failure - Component Sourcing
Thanks guys, Coolant pump is less than 1000 miles.
I have seen Camtec kit, including the bolts which seems quite good, not as cheap as most, but a little less than rimmer bros, has anyone heard of this brand?

Head Gasket Failure - Component Sourcing
Bother ! After driving around 500 miles this week and thinking goodness I love this car I just went to set off for my daughters parents evening and doing my standard pre start up check - No coolant in header tank and a thin smear of emulsion. I did notice that yesterday even after 50 miles of...
