Re: Car Tax

True, but that the DVLA a depends on it is the cause for concern if it's not up to speed. The tax though is the DVLA, as the payment is taken and the payers account updated within hours, so should the tax database

Re: Car Tax

Considering the banking system (which is far busier) can update within minutes, this is another part of the DVLA that is not fit for purpose

Re: Idiots Guide to MGF Fault Codes

There is a list over on .org at http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=198157 but there are a few codes that are not shown there for example P1590 which is relates to ABS sensors, though not necessarily the ABS system. Mine does not have ABS and throws this code up occasionally, because the MY2...

wheel nut size

I can't remember offhand but have a few spare if you want some. I think I have 3 after the tyre idiot at our local garage ruined one which I then had to replace.

Not been back there since

Re: lpg

My original F had an LPG conversion and I loved it. Unfortunately it was written off in an incident with an Audi but it is still something I plan to do to the TF when I finally get both the time and the money (Insurance would not let me have the car back and would not pay out full amount if I had th...

Re: IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN

There is a place in Manchester that does alternators (Just off the end of the M602), they did me a new alternator for my Citroen C5 a couple of years ago for £80, including counterweight (It's a Diesel engine and the previous alternator had a counterweight). The website is http://www.directautoelect...

I'm Huddersfield way and wasn't aware of anything, but then again it was a nice day so could have been a few people arranged to get together and have a short drive.

Re: mgf/mgtf interior

Yes it will, although you will also need to replace the heater controls as well. Quite a few people have done this in the past an the majority of the interior parts of the MG F pre MY2000 cars are the same, with the exception of the console and the heater controls mentioned above.

Glad you got it sorted, mine was fixed with a replacement front shock, but was similar symptoms to yours. Just goes to show that the more you can diagnose and do yourself, the better :)

Oh, I've passed them numerous times in my visits to the area, may well pop in when we're over there in October and find out more.

Thank you for letting us all know of another specilist

May be worth listing a few bits here as well, or taking a few pictures, especially of some of the larger bits like the doors.

Re: Instrument binnacles & brake bleeders

As I've not yet had to do anything with the instrument binnacle, thankfully I have yet had a need for replacement, but have often seen threads where people have had them damaged. A source of such parts will always be useful as you can never be sure a replacement will be in as good condition as the o...

Re: Is the "F" a sports car (to you)?

Using the calculations in Torque Widgets, my TF135 gets around 45MPG on the motorway so long as I'm not doing silly speeds, so could be possible.

Average is less though, work runs in rush hour bring my average MPG down to 33MPG

Re: Is the "F" a sports car (to you)?

Also, the mid engine layout and the low centre of gravity definitely allow for "sporty" handling... it's like a road-going go kart at times... That's exactly how I see and describe my TF to others. It does though have an allusion towards being sporty in the styling and at the time of launch would s...

Re: creaking front suspension/steering

I have the same problem with the TF, turned out to be the shock absorber. I narrowed it down by jacking the car up slowly and feeling for the vibration of the creak. Could feel it in the spring but was stronger on the shock, but nothing on the bush or the subframe. Replacements bought and waiting to...

Re: weak handbrake

No problem, like I said though, any adjustments to the mechanism should be done while fitted to the car, it should be possible to do most if it in situ.

Re: weak handbrake

There is a how to on the tinterwebs on servicing the handbrake section of the callipers, but its something you would do at your own risk. Also the article does it with the calliper off the car, if your doing work on the handbrake, the calliper MUST be ON the car when doing the adjustments, otherwise...
