Re: No ABS Warning light on Display

The Plot thickens !!! Just checked Fuse No. 2 Under bonnet, its ok. So thought "What if I unplug teh Modulator and see what happens?" So I did.................. The ABS Light camer on with Modulator unplugged, so can I now rule out the wiring etc to the Warning Light / Modulator as for some reason t...

Re: No ABS Warning light on Display

Yes, you're right, Carl, the light should perform a self test on ignition. Have you checked the fuses (# 2 under the bonnet and # 20 under the steering wheel). I will test later whether the lamp still comes on if I pull the fuses, as the light has permanent live feed and is switched against ground....

No ABS Warning light on Display

I am curious as to how the ABS Light could not be working? It does not light up with the Ignition and after removing the Instrument Panel and switching the Bulb from one Warning Light to another, can rule out Bulb Failure. I know the ABS doesn't work as I tried it on the Snow a while ago, and just s...

Re: Starter Motor Sticking ?

Just to close off this Thread, I bought a Recon Unit of Ebay for £50, took two days to arrive (plus 2 more days due to Bank Holiday) and was fitted easily.

Car now starts at the turn of a Key again :D

A big thank you for all your help :D

Re: Bought another MGf

Hi, number plate J18MGF is known in the MGF data base from another MGF with VIN 2944. What's the VIN of this green coloured ? As for the lock set I think it may be worth looking at breakers for a complete barrel set. The immobilizer is no problem at all cause up to four blippers can get added with ...

Re: Bought another MGf

The car looks good and the number plate must be worth more than you paid, but .......... I would be worried buying a car that had no keys at all. I worry when you are only offered 1 but none, is a no no to me. Loosing one key is an accident, loosing both is very poor :thumbsd: Very True, but the Ca...

Bought another MGf

Picked up a 1996 MGf 1.8i today at Work for £225. No MOT or Tax and no Keys. Probably a Crazy purchase but............... It is in very good condition: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l298/purpledisc/Photo0542.jpg Not sure how to get round the Key problem, but I am sure I will work it out

Re: Starter Motor Sticking ?

Thought I would add pictures as I have just noted that the old starter is a 1.4 Kw Unit and the new one a 1.1Kw as you can see in the Photo they are very different:

Re: Starter Motor Sticking ?

Did you inspect the gear on the flywheel ?? Is it damaged ?? You may turn the engine a little in gear and retry. Spin Up without engaging may also be due to a low battery with enough to operate the solenoid but not to throw the gear into engagement. When cleaning the motor it is general practice to...

Try cleaning up the old one to free off the bendix gear. At least you'll know it's the right motor.

Hi Brian, I would but the connection from the solenoid is broken. The Starter was the original MG Rover one, it still had the Rover sticker on and was dated 1998 :o

Re: Starter Motor Sticking ?

Managed to get the Starter off, fitted the new starter and .......... It doesn't work

You can hear the starter spin out and return, but nothing else. I figure the Starter is the wrong one, as it does work, you can hear it operate, but it doesn't turn the Engine over :thumbsd:

Re: Starter Motor Sticking ?

Thanks for the response. We bought a replacement, should be with us tomorrow. Now, how on earth do I get that Starter Motor out? Looking at it, it is halfway up the engine on the N/S and there appears to be two metal pipes running over what I think is the Top Bolt for it? (Access is somewhat l...

Starter Motor Sticking ?

My Wife jumped in the MGf and tried startig it, but it wouldn't fire. The Starter motor sounds as though it is stuck, you can hear it spinning sort of, like making a Grinding noise, Isuppose would be the best explanation. Is there a repair kit available or is this going to be a new Starter Motor? We...

Re: Wanted TF160 possibly 135

Thought I'd attempt to upload a pic of the car we bought yesterday here on the south coast (but I get an invalid file type message after selecting the file and 'adding it', any ideas, it's just a jpg?), what great weather, who could have asked for more. Car going very well, I now seem to understand...

Re: MG 80th Anniversary MGtf?

Did you get the vin number Carl ?, a pm would be nice if you can, many thanks. I took some Photos of the VIN, as I was tecnically not allowed to write them down ;) The picture didn't come out as well as I hoped, but is legible, just about. Will jot it down later. Been working on that Brake light sw...
