Re: Selecting Neutral With Cables Discoonected
You should be able to move the selector rod in and out manually - it will centralise rotationally automatically and neutral is the middle position of in/out. Assuming you’ve disconnected the selector mechanism, you should be able to slide a screwdriver/bar through the hole in the selector rod to giv...

From memory I think you can just leave it disconnected.

I was surprised when I check that my TF is okay (135, MY2005)
My two diesel VW’s aren’t (no surprise there really)

Re: Fast Road Clutch??
If you want fit and forget, buy a Freelander Petrol flywheel and fit a standard Rover 220 turbo clutch. These are 228mm instead of the standard 215mm and will cope with all the torque you can throw at them from a N/A K-Series. The Freelander 1.8 uses a 228mm flywheel? I did not know that - thanks J...

Re: MGF engine swap
Overheating could easily knackered both the head and block. The liners get hot and the interface points (bottom of liners in block, and the head face) become soft. Under the clamping loads, the liners will sink into the block and indent into the head surface. The engine could be fitted, but you’d ne...

Re: MGF engine swap
As James said, the basic engine will be the same. From memory, the only part which can’t be swapped easily (eg bolt on) from one engine to the other is the inlet camshaft with the distributor drive. You have three options: 1) Swap the cam over 2) Convert the wiring to run wasted spark/mems 3 ECU. 3)...

Re: MEMS 1.9 to MEMS 3 help.
It sounds like it’s normal - the idle control valve will chatter for a few minutes after the engine is turned off while the main relay is still live.

I don’t recognise that one at all. Was it an auto gearbox on the donor car?

That’s the speedo sensor - you won’t be needing it on the Metro unless you have the skills to convert the dials from mechanical drive to to electronic drive.

Re: Immobiliser MGF 2001.. AHHHHHHHH
Have you changed the battery in the fob? Can you confirm what sort of fob you have (it should say on the back, eg 3XTB, 17TN, or it might not be an MG one) What shape is the Engine Control Unit - is it wedge shaped, or does it have a X pressed into the casing. I’m near Toddington and can reprogram f...

Re: has anyone retro-fitted MG-TF rear suspension to MGF ?
Tf rear top arms have spherical ball joints, whereas the MGF top arm is a roller bearing, so I suspect using the MGF arms won’t allow the suspension to articulate properly.

Re: A scary 'moment' Imobolizer
Where are you based? Find someone local to you with pscan tool or a t300 key programmer and they will be able to add another fob to the system - would have thought it will be less than £60! Any fob with a code 17tn or 3xtb (new or second hand) can be matched to your existing setup. Alternatively, yo...

Part number 48820-20010 I think
There are several others which will do the job - all approx 75mm in length.

I fitted Celica drop links as they were pretty close to the geometry of the 85th ones and a fraction of the price.

Ralph from Metropower mated a v8 to a pg1 which sits in the back of his metro. Pretty sure he’s using an MGF subframe too so a similar thing should be possible in an F

Re: tf 160 eml problem
Which sensors have you swapped?
Eml is normally caused by the cat not working properly or the post cat lambda not working? (Assuming car idles/drives okay)

Re: Pektron testing and fob programming offer
Great to hear that there’s progress on the Pektron front. I have enough fobs for my TF (bought a 2nd hand BCU with 2 fobs a while ago) so can’t help out on the TF front (especially as its SORN!) Will you be looking to develop the facility to read the code from the BCU for the fob in order to transfe...
