Re: Mixing tyres
I have recent experience of new Toyo's on the rear, having fitted two last Wednesday and then setting off from Oxford to Bristol for a wedding and then a brief tour down the west country and south coast before getting back on Sunday. The fronts were new in October and I only do 8 miles a day to work...

Re: Wiper linkage refit
Well, mission accomplished - and Rob, don’t read on if you are squeamish! I loosened the two bolts holding the clutch cylinder and damper to allow it to tilt forward and backward a few degrees. This allowed the wiper mounting bracket a bit more space to manoeuvre and you can pass the linkage in behi...

Re: Wiper linkage refit
I've done all the "moving the linkage" instructions, but the problem is that the wiper motor bracket fouls against the (as I now know it) clutch damper, preventing the left hand spindle from getting enough clearance to pass under the mounting panel; the wiring loom doesn't help either. Still, I've g...

Wiper linkage refit
Took about an hour but I got the linkage out, replaced the motor (and yep, made sure the marks were aligned). Thought it was a little "difficult" but have come to expect this with the "F". And so to putting it back together....... Now, after a further 90 minutes and two cups of tea, I’ve resorted to...

Re: Toyo Tyres
Just a brief postscript, I contacted Toyo and without admitting to there being a problem, they stated that there would be a "supply of T1R of the size [185/55 15 82v] available within the next two weeks" - I had been told by someone in the trade that they are having import problems. I actually got a...

Toyo Tyres
Managed to trash one of my front tyres in the snow - brand new Toyo Proxes T1R  The local depot cannot source them and even Blackcircles are not able to supply - apparently the tyre is on back order and there is no expected date for delivery. I only need to source a single tyre, the local centr...

Canalsman = genius. Lights out and power steering restored once I got underway.
Let's hope all my garage bills are as cheap as this one!

Power Steering
Went to start the "F" for the first time since Xmas Eve and despite frost, snow, rain and gales, she fired up first time, but a bit "missy". No problemo thinks I, I'll just let her warm through. Anyhoo, after a few minutes, boredom sets in and I think about speeding up the process, so I rev the car ...

Re: Recomendation required..
Thanks Stewart. I know MacDonalds - it's only a few miles from my gaff - and I have seen his "we've now got MG trained mechanics" adverts in the past, but these have not been appearing recently. I'll give them a bell and see if they are still in that line of business & I'll certainly give you a plug!

Recomendation required..
The old girl (1998 VVC) is in need a proper service and although I have a perfectly good general garage that I could entrust the work to, I would like to have the car given the "once over" by someone with specific MGF experience. Can anyone recommend a gargare or deasler near to the Oxon/Bucks borde...

Re: FAILURE TO START
I had a very similar problem with the car; if I left it 24 hours upon turning the key I just got a rapid click (machine gun sound?} and the battery rapidly lost charge. The local battery centre tested it and declared the battery to be defective. A new battery gave temporary respite, but within a few...

WIND DEFLECTOR FIXINGS
Being a bit lazy, as I could get on the dog and find out the answers to some of these questions, but hey, that's what t'internet is for! I have obtained an original MG (lest I think it is) mesh style wind deflector. It's in excellent condition, except that one of the plastic hinges, which allow the ...
