Black Tonneau Cover

Hi good peeps. I sold my 1998 MGF VVC a good 7 or 8 years back and in clearing out a shed I today came across the tonneau cover. As I say, it's been in a shed, it's been folded and although it's not "past it", my first thought was to bin it, unless anyone in the MGF Universe can make use of it - Fre...

Re: Gear gaiter

Thanks Geoff, I saw that, but from the line diagram, the part number seems to refer to the chrome finisher rather than the gaiter, which it turn doesn't appear to be an oval - but then the picture of the "Aubergine" assembly does look similar.....

Gear gaiter

Having sold my MGF last year, I am now getting round to finding bits that I bought and never used, but this beastie has come out of the shed. http://img3014.photobox.co.uk/7468264093ebad299b78f580401df0911c2d0365078e98cafbc20c43127566e81a7a5718.jpg http://img3014.photobox.co.uk/9932501833fc811358d8f...

Hardtop in red

The arrival of the cold weather has reminded me that I have a hardtop hanging under covers at the back of my shed. It was sold to me as a Flame Red hardtop, but did look a shade lighter than the car when fitted, though this could be down to the fact that the car paint is exposed to the elements 365 ...

Re: Catastrophe

I have a complete wiper linkage in my shed and having parted company with the F http://th717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Smileys/th_1sm024cry.gif a couple of weeks ago, it's no use to me. It's a long way to N.Wales from Oxford and I can't guarantee that all the joints are still kosher,...

Re: End of the line

My neighbour has decided he would like to buy the car, so it isn't for the scrapyard this month - I let him have in at less than the trade in price, just so it stayed on the road. Here's what you could have won...... MG1.jpg MG2.jpg m3.jpg m4.jpg He's undecided on the matching Nightfire Red hardtop,...

End of the line

Having flown into a John Cleese like paddy when the F did it's intermitent "I ain't gonna turn over" trick, I loudly announced "right that's it, you're getting traded in in the morning" and lo and behold I find I am now the owner of a nice shiney sensible car and the F has got a trade in value of £7...

Re: Symptoms of alternator failure??

.....the alternator could well be delivering a higher voltage than 14V not just a low or no volts. If an alternator failed in this way, what might be the effect on the car battery? I was supposing that a battery will only hold the charge that it is designed for, but I am far from an expert in these...

Re: Hard Top Headaches

Glad I could help; there's plenty more suppliers out there - Google "Leather Cloth" for a bigger choice. The only colour we have scheduled to go is a rather milky silver grey; PM me if you want a swatch in an envelope. And just so it's clear, the typo in the OM is S K IP end of line rolls, not swip ...

Re: Hard Top Headaches

Something like this , maybe? I work in aircraft interior refurbishment and we use a product from e-Leather. Natch, being aircraft standard you can add a couple of zeros to the price, but we occasionally swip end of line partial rolls; I might be able to salvage a few meters. On the downside, the mos...

Re: Failure to start.

This problem seems to be "flavour of the month" at the moment; I recall it being discussed on at least two other threads in the past few weeks.

Quickest, cheapest and easiest starting gambit is to reseat the LT wire on the starter; otherwise plenty more good advice is to be found here and here.

Re: Starting issues

On occassions, mine does exactly the same - jump in turn the key and nothing, but by removing the rear grill and reaching down to the starter motor, I can slide the LT wire to the solenoid back and forth on it's tag and that seems to restore full functionality. I guess the wire is broken somewhere u...

Re: Fitting the hardtop

As this is a first fit to the car, I would lower the windows before fitting and when done, raise them with doors open (or just open the doors if you have the space!). Gently push the door to and you can ensure that the glass fit to the seals is good. There is some scope for adjustment on all the cat...

Re: MGF wont start

If all the usual lights are on and bright, try reseating the ignition feed on the starter motor. You can reach the starter motor by removing the grill and reaching down; feel the spade conector on the top of the motor and slide it back and forth a few times. If it restores functionality, you might w...

Re: Starting Problem

I had a vaguely similar problem in that my F would refuse to start, not even a click from the starter, but a persistent jiggling on/off of the ignigion key would sometimes get a result; a jump start or push would be fine. I took it to a national tyre centre who tested and went for new battery, altho...

Free junk

Don't know whether this is useful to anyone, but I'm always reluctant to bin things cos "you never know they might be useful" - a strategy that gives me a shed full of bits of cars going back thirty years, the least likely of which always end up at the tip when I need to store the next "might be use...

Re: First MG

I can confirm that camskill are a good source of online Toyo tyres; they are also happy to have the tyres delivered direct to wherever you have arranged fitting - taking four tyres from home in an F might be a problem. When I had mine replaced back in August, I could not source the tyres through any...
