Re: what have you done on your mgf today?

I'm just gearing up for a trip to Italy in the 'F', at the end of next month. Going via the French alps and then the tunnel of Frejus, then to Turin and north to lake Maggiore. It's about time it had a decent run out. Hasn't really been anywhere since before covid.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?

I need counselling! I went out with the Mem'Sahib today in the 'F' to have lunch with some friends. During the meal it rained and I had to drive home in the wet... that's the first time I've got it wet in over 5 years!

I hope it hasn't caught a cold.

I'm with a French on-line insurer called "Eurofil" - for 3rd party fire & theft with windscreen cover I pay 193€ (£165)

Are you looking at buying a car with an already failed head gasket?

Re: Alarm issues after flat battery

My 'F' still has sporadic issues with the alarm. Sometimes when I lock it, it's fine other times it goes off after a minute or so. I have got to the stage, after messing with the boot lid wiring loom on several occasions that I just don't bother locking the car any more. There's nothing inside it wo...

Cheapest option? Buy a one size fits all cone filter from the bay of E. I have one (I'm tighter than a submarine's window)

Re: Hood & frame cross compatibility

Yes, but you can't mix the covers and frames. ie Mk1 cover goes with a Mk1 Frame and a Mk2 cover goes with a Mk2 frame.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?

First outing for 2024. Nice and sunny down here today, 18°C so just right for a spot of "roof-down" motoring. The car fired up first flick, as usual. (I keep it on a battery conditioner over the winter). The roads were dry and they don't salt round here, so I had a nice little round robin of about 2...

Re: Advice Needed

It's very difficult to give specific advice without seeing the actual vehicle. If it's the subframe mountings that are corroded, they can be fairly easily replaced, given the likely problems to be encountered (as mentioned in the previous post). However if the actual floor pan of the car around wher...

Re: Car unsettled over bumps

Has the car had the hydragas spheres re-gassed? Is the ride height correct at 368mm (front) or has it been fitted with lowering pins?
I personally wouldn't run either make of tyre you mention. Toyo T1Rs are the dogs.

Good subframe that one - the towing eyes are usually battered to death, especially on an 'F' when the hydragas has depleted.

Re: wiring up TF instrument cluster to check mileage

I don't know about the MG TF but a friend of mine bought a replacement dash/speedo for his BMW thinking that it would show a lower mileage and when he plugged it in the exact same mileage came up on the new one - so, in that particular case the mileage was stored in the ECU and not in the dash/speed...

Re: New Battery - FLAT

If the battery is less than a year old then it should still be under warranty and Halfords should replace it, providing you still have the original receipt. However when you say you "give it a run" a couple of times a week, do you actually take the car out and run it for 10-15 miles at least, or do ...

Re: 2001 MG MGF 1.8i - leather seats and trim.

It's nice enough to have a punt at but if I'm honest, I think you'll be lucky if you get much beyond £500 for it. The cam belt is out of date and the next MOT is not that far off either. The problem is that the car is not an early 'F' (so close to "Classic ULEZ age") nor is it worth much more than t...

Re: Exhaust downpipe

If it's possible to remove some metal with a rotary file, you can use the joint gasket as a pattern to mark the new flange in order to give you something to work around. Good luck.

I suspect that the part at the bottom is for the 1.6 K series engine, and yes it probably will affect performance (IMHO).

Be interested in seeing a 1995 MGTF... they weren't launched until 2002. I presume what you have is an early MG 'F'.

Despite its age, the MGF is still a very pretty car, roof up or down. Mind you, I'm biased.
