Re: Will using higher RON or Super Unleaded fuel help my car?
I know this thread is a bit old, but I have been running my Mk1 mpi on 95 - E10 for several years with no problems whatsoever. If you consult the Land Rover forums they will confirm that the K Series engine (also used in the Freelander) was designed to be E10 compatible even though they never said s...

All that polishing must have been worth it. Controle Technique thist afternoon - passed, with not a single advisory. 117989 miles. Yes, I did get it wet.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I have to take the 'F' for its bi-annual French "Contrôle Technique" on Thursday and the weather forecast is looking like it's going to be stormy. I can't remember the last time I got the car wet, so I might need some counselling afterwards. In anticipation of a shower I have treated the car to a th...

Re: Your experience
I have a bog standard Mk1 MGF 1.8i which I have owned for 16 years. It has covered 117,000 miles and is perfectly reliable, although I did replace the head gasket several years ago at 80K miles (Land Rover modification multi-layer gasket). I am gearing up for an Italy trip in it at the end of the mo...

Re: Hydragas
The height correction is only relevant if the hydragas spheres are in good order and haven't lost their nitrogen. If the spheres have gone (and they usually have by 15-20 years) then any amount of pumping won't make a difference to ride quality.
Re: StepSpeed
On the subject of tyres, I have just fitted a new pair of Toyos to the rear of my Mk1. They are Toyo Proxes TR1, not the T1R which I have had on originally and appears to have been discontinued. Haven't been out in the car yet to see if they're any good, but they look good and there's plenty of trea...

Re: Imported a classic car
Plenty of MGFs for sale in France, both left hand & right hand drive. Be aware however that French second hand car prices can be much higher than in the UK, but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. Dependant on the department where the car is/has been used you may find one that is quite c...

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Update on my last post - trip to Italy has been postponed, but because of the weather. We were planning to go a week tomorrow but the local forecast is for heavy rain all the time we're there, which would have made the trip a bit pointless. We've put it off until a bit later. In the meantime I'm get...

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I'm just gearing up for a trip to Italy in the 'F', at the end of next month. Going via the French alps and then the tunnel of Frejus, then to Turin and north to lake Maggiore. It's about time it had a decent run out. Hasn't really been anywhere since before covid.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I need counselling! I went out with the Mem'Sahib today in the 'F' to have lunch with some friends. During the meal it rained and I had to drive home in the wet... that's the first time I've got it wet in over 5 years!
I hope it hasn't caught a cold.

Re: Alarm issues after flat battery
My 'F' still has sporadic issues with the alarm. Sometimes when I lock it, it's fine other times it goes off after a minute or so. I have got to the stage, after messing with the boot lid wiring loom on several occasions that I just don't bother locking the car any more. There's nothing inside it wo...

Yes, but you can't mix the covers and frames. ie Mk1 cover goes with a Mk1 Frame and a Mk2 cover goes with a Mk2 frame.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
First outing for 2024. Nice and sunny down here today, 18°C so just right for a spot of "roof-down" motoring. The car fired up first flick, as usual. (I keep it on a battery conditioner over the winter). The roads were dry and they don't salt round here, so I had a nice little round robin of about 2...

Re: Advice Needed
It's very difficult to give specific advice without seeing the actual vehicle. If it's the subframe mountings that are corroded, they can be fairly easily replaced, given the likely problems to be encountered (as mentioned in the previous post). However if the actual floor pan of the car around wher...

Re: Car unsettled over bumps
Has the car had the hydragas spheres re-gassed? Is the ride height correct at 368mm (front) or has it been fitted with lowering pins?
I personally wouldn't run either make of tyre you mention. Toyo T1Rs are the dogs.
