It was a bit of a shock to say the least Adrian. The air turned blue for a few seconds until I was able to determine that the damage was weldable.

Re: Suplex suspension WARNING

Taki As you're within the 12 month warranty of your kit, look closely at the dampers. Take a rear wheel off and look just under the suplex sticker. If you have stamped in "SUPLEX MGF F" and underneath a sticker saying REAR, then you have the old style dampers. These are the ones that can cause the i...

Re: Trophy 160 Buying tips

I'm pretty sure mine was one of the earlier units. Hopefully most of those with earlier units are in touch with Suplex and have had their issues resolved.

Also glad to hear that GAZ is the manufacturer of the current dampers. Their quality seems to be good.

Re: Trophy 160 Buying tips

Adrian, I am not aware of Trophy Yellow having been offered on any other MGF other than the Trophy? As with Trophy Blue, it was available on the later TFs :) I am now suitably edified with the body code "Z"! :D So a trophy will have both the body code Z and engine letter P in the chassis code :) In...

Re: Trophy 160 Buying tips

Rob, there are many Trophy Yellow MGF's, in fact check my winning picture in this years calendar (this month in fact), it's a Trophy Yellow MGF going through a ford, it also made the front cover of a recent Safety Fast. I thought that one was a one off and that all the other Trophy Yellow MGFs were...

Re: Trophy 160 Buying tips

As Adrian states the key is the Z on the vin plate. The only other F/TF that has a Z in the VIN is the 85th. The vin should contain all of the following (for a RHD UK Market car)... SARRDZBPC1D There will then be a six digit number. This number should not be lower than 525705 The engine number shoul...

Suplex suspension WARNING

After I bought my MGF Trophy 160 I discovered that the hydragas had been replaced with Suplex suspension I had a problem in that the suspension always seemed to bottom out. Then about a month ago I heard a ticking sound from the off side rear... This is what I found. IMG_0443.JPG IMG_0445.jpg The da...

Re: Rover 25 wheels

Early Metros (1980-1990) had a different PCD, it being identical to that of the Mini. 4 x 101.6 The 95.25 in the Rover Metro/100 (90 onwards) came about because the Metro used Maestro front brakes and hubs the reason being they couldn't get the original hubs to work with the R65 gearbox. So they rai...

RIP Dr Alex Moulton

Dr Moulton passed away peacefully on Sunday 9 December aged 92. He is best known for his work on vehicle suspension and bicycles. Of particular relevance to MGF owners is that it was his hydragas system that was fitted to our cars. RIP to a true engineering great. EDIT: Keith Adams has posted an obi...

Re: no spark no fuel after engine removal

The immboliser allows the car to start and run for a few seconds, somewhere between 3 and 30 seconds and then cuts the fuel. Worth checking the inertia switch which cuts the fuel. Not strictly correct James. If the immobiliser is active, the car wouldn't even crank as if kills the earth on the star...

Re: project mgf

From the looks of it Darren you just need to sort out the Lambda, and do a general check/service for it to be mechanically ready for the MoT.

Good work, and good to see an early F getting some TLC.

It's a first run then. I've also confirmed it with the registration date. It was registered in May '01 (The same month the Trophy was introduced according to Rob Bell's site).

Trophy 160's

I know there were two runs of the MGF Trophy 160.

I'm trying to work out which one mine would fit into. Are there approximate VIN ranges available?

Re: MGF wallowing

After you replaced the bushes, did you have 4 wheel alignment done? It's entirely possible the tracking is out either on the front wheels and/or the rear wheels.

Getting this set correctly may well cure the issue.
