" THE FRONT SUBFRAME OR REAR SUBFRAME AS THE BOLT LENGTHS ARE DIFFERENT"
Is it possible that you have the front and rear bolts mixed up?
When I fitted my roll hoops I ran into this issue with bolts diameters, it took me a while
to get the right bolts in the right holes.

Re: Replacing all subframe mounts
I can’t help you on this but at the moment I have 6 solid mounts fixed and left the two at the rear od the sub frame as it was. Just for the same reason. Looking for a perfect combination of things to do at the rear to do these nasty mountings at the same time. With only 6 mounts installed there is...

Amazingly, at the end of the meeting the owner donned his helmet and drove the Eleven 100 miles home on the public freeways!

Re: Project Swamp
I knew eventually I would find a way to wind up the years of making this post.
I'll let the pictures tell the story.
Project Swamp has come to a wonderful conclusion.

Re: Project Swamp
The next chapter in this tale is to prepare for use on the track at club days. This called for some sort of rollover protection and of course a fire extinguisher. After the usual Covid delays my Mk 5 Mike Satur rollhoops arrived and after the troubles I overcame with the suspension replacement the f...

Re: brake discs
In our car club Supersprint format we only do 10 minute runs,
and the circuits are pretty short and twisty,
so the speeds are low compared to some tracks;
the red stuff seem to be standing up to the punishment so far.

Re: brake pads on the track
The only old thread I could find about brakes and track days: My first proper track day last month and I came home with a very noisy front end. I have standard front discs that were replaced a few years back and have about 20,000 road miles on them. I am using Redstuff Ceramic Brake Pads front and r...

Re: ABS light on... and then off...
I have had an intermittent ABS light come on and off a few times, and interestingly I've done a track day last month. I expect however my light is due to the connection under the seat getting dislodged by my back side rumbling around in the seat while on the track. :lol: :lol: :lol: I'm off to the t...

Re: Light weight flywheel, stage 2 clutch, close ratio gearbox and Torsen-A differential upgrades (fun & games!)
HI Rob, I have the C4 differential gears in my car after slotting in the internals from a TF box during the rebuild. I find it fantastic on the 'open road' as the engine revs sit right in the power band at 65 mph, so the car just wants to jump away and run in 5th without changing gear. Of course on ...

Re: MGF Starter Motor
Don't just stop at the one connector. For a car of this age I suggest you start at the positive battery terminal and work your way ALL THE WAY back to the battery negative terminal, remove, clean, inspect and replace every single connection. Remember after the current gets to the starter motor it st...

seat leather
Can anyone point me in the direction of a place to get matching red leather for my seats?
I have an excellent trimmer in town, but they're probably going to ask me to pay for an entire matching roll;
so I have the idea of getting some cut off a roll in the UK perhaps???

Re: crunching 5th gear
I guess the proof would be in the question: does it crunch when you double shuffle?? I once had a Subaru gearbox go this way under warranty many years ago. The test ( by the dealer ) was to try double shuffling, thereby taking the synchro out of the equation. My partner at the time thought she was s...

Re: Mk 2 Coolant filling problem.
The timing belt is not as big an issue if you know the 'tricks' After I did mine with the water pump last year I ended the job with the thought: "If you have the right equipment; and some experience, then no job is all that difficult" You need the following equipment: 1) 6 point socket for the crank...

Re: Mk 2 Coolant filling problem.
I have done my coolant/water pump change in 2021 so I know what you're up against. I leave the back of the car on jack stands and the front wheels on the ground. You clearly understand the issue of the air getting caught behind the thermostat, so starting the engine is as much about getting that ope...

Re: To flush or not to flush............
It's faster to remove the engine cover and refill into the cam cover than wait for the filler neck to trickle down 4-1/2 litres. :sf: :sf: :lol: :lol: Anyway, with every oil change/service an owner should be having a general look about in the engine bay anyway. After doing my water pump late last ye...

Re: To flush or not to flush............
Over the more recent years whenever I have acquired pre-owned cars I have always converted the engine oil to fully synthetic oil. It always seemed that the 2nd oil change resulted in a much smoother engine. An old mechanic has explained the outcome to me, and it's not my imagination! The first oil c...
