Re: Hydragas
In my humble opinion that's shared by one very respected MG mechanic down here ( not a dealer though ) it's not that much of an exact measurement. Yes you can measure it to the last millimeter, but 368 at the front looks a bit odd to me, like a monster truck that shrunk. This mechanic ( actually a p...

Coolant pond on cam carrier
I am getting a small pond of coolant in the hollow ABOVE the inlet manifold on the timing belt end of the engine. The coolant loss is so small it hardly ever needs topping up, so I'd call it a weep? ; but it must be coming out from somewhere. It is well above the head gasket level, so I'm assuming i...

Re: My question
Camshaft bush.JPG The J31/J32 engine has a bush on the end of the inlet camshaft that drives the distributor. Then the rotor button is pressed on by hand. What I can't tell you is if the bush will press straight onto the 135 camshaft or if some machining will be needed. As for driving 135 performan...

Re: Wheel nuts?
I now only ever use a 6 point tool on the wheel nuts of any car. I have a 21 mm impact socket in the back of my Captiva, and of course use a 6 point socket and torque wrench in the F Even so, I always have 4 new wheel nuts in the cupboard and have pretty much replaced the entire set over the last 10...

Re: Brake random soft pedal
A servo brace will not transform your braking, until the day arrives when the firewall cracks and falls to bits and you have no brakes at all. Then it will become a transformative alteration. :D :D    In my view it's a must have for all cars. Unfortunately here down under it involves ...

Re: Brake random soft pedal
When I put my car back on the road after a number of years in the garage I of course changed the fluid, but also removed each of the 4 calipers and made sure the slides were greased and working. Start with that, you might find something that needs fixing. After 20 plus years it's possible the front ...

issues after flat battery
All modern cars like to have that power supply close to 13 volts.
I had a flat battery in my Captiva last week; it's taken 3 days for me to get the Bluetooth from the phone to reconnect
So I have given up and driven the F to work

Re: Car unsettled over bumps
I think the conventional view is that these cars should have the same brand and pattern of tyre on the front and rear. My son has Yokohama Advan 701's on his Toyota MR2 which has the same front/rear combo as the F, and he drives away from the pack on the club runs. So my concern is that your car has...

Re: Brand of air conditioning pump
Great thanks.
That covers the TF 120, the big question is will it also fit an F?
Rimmers only list the one ( discontinued ) part number from 1998-2005,
but is this so?

Brand of air conditioning pump
Can anyone advise the brand of the air conditioning pump in both the F and TF120?
I have a local repairer that if it's a Nippondenso they can rebuilt it.

Re: MGF Headlamp upgrade.
Could you please post a link to the item? Down under there's no brightness checking, ( at my local anyway ) they just check that some light comes out of the headlights   The later models have such bright headlights, and some so high off the ground, no-one will bother or care if a little MG...

teaching a learner - manual
I am teaching my daughter to drive, so far in my Automatic 'day car' We would like her to get a manual licence, which means teaching her to drive the F. :sf: Is there any risk of doing damage by stalling the car? Now even I stalled it the other cold morning so stalling it once or twice won't be an i...

Re: Very strange issue, am I the only one?
So you have had the head replaced 300 miles ago,
and now it's not running perfectly,
logic suggests something has not been plugged back in correctly.
I would go back over all of the electricals that were unplugged to change the head.

Re: Wiper motor
Make sure that the underbonnet lining goes over the motor. Geoff F I don't quite understand this comment - I have just refitted my wiper motor and the underbonnet lining doesn't seal between the wiper motor and the road. In my mind it only seems to funnel any water upwards towards the wipers. I hav...

Re: New Owner- Tyres
G'Day Jeremy, When I bought my car it had 195/50 tyres front and rear. They were quite new so I drove the car for 2-3 years until I wore them out. I decided to go for the 185/55 Front and 205/50 rear set-up as listed on the tyre placard in the car. I could tell the car felt so much better already on...

Re: Wiper motor
BTW, you can fit a later TF wiper motor to an MGF, but you have to remove the plugs from both, and fit the MGF plug to the TF wiper harness. I have done this previously (many many years ago) and not had any problems :D Indeed this is the only option now for an F. Easily swapped over though. I shoul...

Re: Wiper motor
Mike Satur is working on modifying the wiring on a part that can be sourced new.
Not quite ready yet and I couldn't wait but hopefully they get this new source sorted out soon.

Thanks for this tip,
Mgfntfbitz managed to find me a wiper motor that will fit,
however there's not many new ones left now at any price.

Wiper motor
Anyone know where I can get a windscreen wiper motor that works?
I got caught in a thunderstorm and my protective measures got inundated.
Rimmers, MG Obsession, Mike Satur etc are all out of stock
