Re: epas sensor
Why do I always look at the simplest things last? Having all the tyres at the right pressure helped no end.

Lumme - in light of the foregoing I shall fit 2 inertia switches in series and have a green LED to indicate a circuit.

Re: Turning over but not starting
Noises may be from the idle control stepper motor. What happens if you rig a temporary wire direct to the fuel pump? if it works on the bench it should work in situ.

Re: non starting mg mgf 2000
If it's been wet just try WD40 in all the relevant sensors. Water in them (from floods maybe?) screws the readings. The ECT sensor - next to the top hose - effectively controls the "choke" - water in there says "engine hot" and no "choke" is applied - crank it for ever.

Re: The good news is....
NO, no, no, NEVER! The galleries in the K series engine are narrow enough as it is & you'll just block everything up. Don't use radweld or any other such product. All you're doing is camouflaging the fact that there's something wrong. I hate to disagree with Reckless but it just MIGHT be an answer ...

Re: The good news is....
My F developed a leak exactly where Rich in Vancouver had his - top of the top hose. Also did not show until under pressure. Underway most of the steam came out of the left side of the exhaust exit port - not the pipe itself but it sure looked like it. I wouldn't put more anti-freeze in until you fi...

Re: Turning over but not starting
Well - I sorted mine out - condensation in the Coolant Temperature Sensor connector. Read Rob Bell's piece on the cold resistance - thank you Rob - meant to be high when cold so disconnected it, can't get higher than that - started pronto. I had tried WD40ing yesterday but obviously not enough. WD40...

Re: Turning over but not starting
Did you ever manage to check the compressions? My old engine wouldn't run on 130psi and the replacement had 210 - 215 psi, so a huge difference. Maybe I'm missing something but if 1 bar is 14.5 psi then 130 psi on the tester is 8.9:1 compression ratio with no leaks - can't get much better than that...

Re: Turning over but not starting
1998 1.8 nonVVC - I'm having a similar problem. Turns over, fires irregularly but just won't catch. History - had a leak in the top hose (to cooling pipe & heater), much steam but no overheat, recovered to home. Drove into garage, fixed leak by shortening pipe a tad, added some anti-freeze, started ...

Re: where to get Hydragas pumped up ????
For those in the North London area, I have a hydragas pump and can read EKA and code new key fobs :) Hi Rob, I have only one keyfob for my current ECU. I have a spare ECU and security module with 2 x keyfobs - but no EKA for it. I also have family in North London. If I change the ECU and S-module m...

Re: epas sensor
Hi Mykel,
Sounds just like mine - I had new track rod ends on today and 4-wheel alignment check - made no difference. I'm thinking of going to the ECU tomorrow to get some contact cleaner on all the joints. Maybe I have poor contacts on the "turn right" loom.

Re: epas sensor
Yes - I had read that. It was that page that started me on this track. I was surprised to find how accurately my sensor seems to be centred (already). My Fluke on the mVDC range gives 0.0mV +/- 0.3mV between green and red wires with no steering input. No matter how hard I lean on the wheel (front wh...

epas sensor
Anybody know what output to expect from the epas sensor when a torque is applied - say enough to turn the wheels on a stationary car? I am getting more power assist when turning left than turning right. The sensor shows spot-on 0mV at no torque - but frankly not much when I do apply a torque. The di...

Re: Rear Brake Calipers
No doubt everyone knows by now - but if you came to this point because you didn't (I didn't) - it might be of interest to know that you don't need a special tool to wind the rear pistons back. Anything found or made with 2 small prongs which fit into the recess on the piston face will do. Once engag...

Re: Cooling failure
Hi Tipper - yes, had a crawl under as best possible - absolutely no leaks. Certainly won't abandon her - if necessary I'll recover myself. Still waiting on word from the assistance co.
Cavaddict - again - I''ll see what Britannia say - Thanks for the offer.
Could be in a worse place!

Re: Cooling failure
Bandit and Cavaddict - thanks to both. Beginning to think this boil-up and the last I had may be related and not to do with the failed fan relay - though failed it was. On both occasions I had just started to "press on" a bit. Nothing violent but certainly using a bit more right foot than before, bo...

Re: Cooling failure
Clearly lack of water causes overheat and clearly a low water level sensor is a No.1 requirement - but cars don't just throw water away without reason - something failed which caused the water loss and I don't think it was the head gasket or a leak. Fishing for electrical ideas. By the "cooling circ...
