Re: MGF on eBay £180

Too far away for me, but 180 quid seems cheap for a runner. Difficult to judge for typical corrosion points, but it looks like a reasonably straight car. With very nice wheels!

It appears to be a fairly basic MPi without ABS judging by the lack of a high-level brake light.

Re: New MGF Headlights.

That's expensive for something that isn't quite right.

Are they made in the same way as the Valeo originals Geoff?

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

Thanks James - I'll give it some thought. I might just have it there for when parked, and then remove when in use. Or simply disconnect the lightweight battery when not in use... The latter is the simplest I suspect, albeit with the risk of losing MEMS3 calibration when I go over to that system.

Re: 280mm BRAKES

The other reason why the rears may be dustier is that with the pads being smaller, they get hotter?

Just check that they're in the slides fully square and the dimple aligns - they can wear in a wedge pattern (don't ask how I know )

That's really neat Ed. :thumbsu:

I've read some negative comments regarding flex in these obp pedal boxes - anything you've noticed?

Re: Oh no! I've gone and done it again... Project Shed version 2?

Thanks guys - the car doesn't owe me very much at all :) Well, not yet anyway! If the cylinder head has gone, it'll be very difficult to save based on today's prices. But as you all say, the engine is a doddle to get to! I'm hoping to be able to work on this with the kids, so that they keep there no...

Re: EBC Yellow Stuff brake pads

Finally fitted the yellow stuff pads. Not really driven enough to form a useful impression, but initial retardation feels just fine :)

Need to bed the pads in now ahead of the Abingdon CAR-nival :D

Oh no! I've gone and done it again... Project Shed version 2?

Moral of the story: don't by a used car from my Nephew! In short, I am now the "proud owner" of a 2004 ZR105. It's another Shed. Obviously. I thought I'd put the brief story of it so far here as a bit of group therapy! The backstory is that my Nephew bought the car as a stop gap afte...

Re: Mgf auto

I think the question is why the automatic gearbox is not shifting when in drive (but is shifting in manual mode) - I presume that the problems with overheating have been solved? I am no expert on the CVT, but I do know that these gearboxes are very particular regarding the oil used in them: do NOT u...

I haven't tried this. But it may help if the one in your car is worn. :)

Re: 1997 MGF help needed!

A binding caliper is generally easy to diagnose: the smell of burnt friction material, and even a little smoke, will give the game away!!! A brake problem would not necessarily explain the boiling coolant either. When the engine gets VERY hot, you will loose power and the engine will eventually stal...

That was a nice job and superb bit of recycling :thumbsu: Essentially mimicks the B&G bracket (and the MS version).

Re: Stainless Manifold/Downpipe

I wonder whether a good "Italian tune-up" to get the manifold properly hot would help clear this carbon? Certainly does a good job on the cylinder head!

A Dremel-type tool, or a carbide burr on an electric drill should do the job :)

Re: Stainless Manifold/Downpipe

Smoother welds - depending on whether you got a "good one" or a "bad one" from the factory! The pipes are internally welded, and the weld can significantly reduce the diameter of pipe! Which is why you can probably get most of the advantage of one of these s/s manifolds in a stan...
