Re: TF Race Car Build

Clicking MFU relays.

Wiper problems I had were related to oxidised contacts of the multi-connector behind the fuse box :)

Re: MG London Showroom. I just don't get it :(

TF hasn’t been sold on any market for years. Where’s the sports car in their line up? The MGE seems a step in the right direction, but for now seems like a very long way away. Worse, I am not sure they can instil “MGness” into their products (only the MG3 comes close), but I’m happy to be proven wro...

Re: Engine Swap for a larger engine? Possible?

MGFs come with multiple ECUs that all function largely independently - which means you can remove one from the system with no ill effect :) No CAN bus in an MGF (or TF!) :thumbsu: A longitudinal V6 can be used - you’ll just need to be a little smarter with fabrication I suspect, adapting things like...

Re: TF Race Car Build

Mine did that too before I started to use it regularly - it also made some odd immobiliser chimes too: I think it was all oxidised contacts, but cleaned them all and it's been as good as gold since :)

Re: MG London Showroom. I just don't get it :(

I looked at the Disco 5 and Velar. The former feels HUGE and the Velar... not quite what I wanted out of a Land Rover.

Love the XF sportbrake. If selling our ZTT, this is the car that’d replace it :)

Re: Engine Swap for a larger engine? Possible?

There are a few tricks to lower the seat. In my race car I designed mounting plates that the seat side mounts bolt to. If you keep the standard seats, there’s a clever mod by VHS that lowers the standard squab cushion. V8 in a VX220 (aka Lotus Elise) has also been done using the old Rover Buick V8. ...

Re: MG London Showroom. I just don't get it :(

MG as we knew it is dead. Chinese management are completely clueless as to what they’ve bought and are only interested in churning out volume shopping trollers that on the home market is perceived as a prestigious British brand. I agree Colin, the whole “re-birth” has been a massive disappointment. ...

Re: Engine Swap for a larger engine? Possible?

All of the above comments are valid. However, there is no real reason why you couldn’t or can’t fit any engine you fancy into an MGF - within reason (a 27 litre RR Merlin is not really going to fit!) KV6, k-series turbos have been done quite a few times. Honda V-tech too. The parameters for an MGF e...

Re: TF Race Car Build

Early ‘03s use a late MGF wiring loom with the Lucas MFU - hence the oddities you’re finding.

The wiring diagram suits pre-2000 MGFs - so yes, a MEMS3 car will be different...

Looking good though! I got Peter to make me a lightweight standard MGTF bootlid (and bonnet) :D

Looking fantastic Ed! :thumbsu:

I really like the mk1 grille: that’s inspired. And the early stainless trim is a must IMO.

Re: I am about to buy a Money Pit

^^ so true I don't think MGFs are money pits - but there are surely some cars that have been neglected and will have a long list of jobs to be done. Then there are others, often for much the same money, that are very very good... The trick is to find the right one. Which is easier said than done! A ...

 I thought it looked far too good a finish! :thumbsu:

PS Need to pick up those bits from you some time. The ZR is now in the lock up since Phil has done his thing with the Pektron reverse engineering (so at least the car has been a good investment for the whole community :))

Re: TF Race Car Build

I reckon the electrical version is probably easier to fit (and is likely a little lighter over all ;)) but yes, you're right - that's a good way to plumb the gauge in :thumbsu:

What gauge did you use?

Re: Modified TF 1.8 turbo VAG engine, for sale.

Probably trying to recoup some of the cost invested in the car I suspect.

Something doesn't look right about it: bonnet shut lines look wrong, and what is with the high ride height?

Re: TF Race Car Build

Funnily enough, I've just bought a cheap electrical oil pressure gauge. It's some Chinese eBay cheapie, but it isn't really the actual value I'm interested in - more whether the oil pressure is "good" or "bad". It might just as well have a smiley face and a sad face painted on it...

Re: bulkhead flex under braking

It's the same - very simple to fabricate yourself and will give you a worth while improvement. Better still it is designed for the snorkel style air inlet that your TF is hopefully already fitted with? :)
