Re: Fifth production MGF N421 SAC on ebay..

Lovely original car - shame about the nasty stereo, but hopefully that can be put back to standard too.

Just hope it's gone to an enthusiast!

Re: 160 head on a 143 block

And I've done :D Actually, plenty of folks have done this for a variety of different projects (Metros, Midgets, Caterhams etc. etc. etc.). In general, it is about matching up wire colours, although there are a few things to look out for. The "best" MEMS3 loom to go for, I think, would be a...

Re: 160 head on a 143 block

The head is a straight swap. To get the extra few horses, the valve seats are cut differently to improve low-lift air flow. Very early 160 heads (from the Trophy 160) even have a cut out around the valve pockets. None of this makes the least difference to fitting the head to an earlier engine. :) As...

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

Heat stroke!!! I mean the speedo reed switch drive a reed switch to provide a square pulse signal with the road speed to the EPAS ECU.

It's a bit of a strange analogue to digital solution, but it works (so long as the cable hadn't snapped!)

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

Mk1 speedo drive used a reed switch arrangement for the rev counter signal - so I guess a similar arrangement could be used if the drive shaft idea doesn't work out?

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

Looking good!

Have you figured out the magnet for your speed sensor?

Could you not adapt the original sender? Just worry about the imbalance on the drive shaft at speed...

Re: Mgf as a track car???

Great as track cars - with loads of tuning potential. Mine is for track days and sprints. Loving it. But now it needs more power now I've got 200kg out of it... ;)

Re: MG LIVE.. which day are you going?

I'd agree with the guys - if heading down for the one day only, go for a Saturday. But this year, owing to clashes, I am heading down for the Sunday only (to collect some parts - not racing this year!) My preference is to head down on the Friday evening and then enjoy the spectacle from start to fin...

That's good to hear Geoff.

Is the outer cover still made in "glass"? Or now in a transparent plastic? (if they're lighter, I might buy a pair!)

Re: MGF on eBay £180

Too far away for me, but 180 quid seems cheap for a runner. Difficult to judge for typical corrosion points, but it looks like a reasonably straight car. With very nice wheels!

It appears to be a fairly basic MPi without ABS judging by the lack of a high-level brake light.

That's expensive for something that isn't quite right.

Are they made in the same way as the Valeo originals Geoff?

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

Thanks James - I'll give it some thought. I might just have it there for when parked, and then remove when in use. Or simply disconnect the lightweight battery when not in use... The latter is the simplest I suspect, albeit with the risk of losing MEMS3 calibration when I go over to that system.

Re: 280mm BRAKES

The other reason why the rears may be dustier is that with the pads being smaller, they get hotter?

Just check that they're in the slides fully square and the dimple aligns - they can wear in a wedge pattern (don't ask how I know )

I've read some negative comments regarding flex in these obp pedal boxes - anything you've noticed?
